Following the Royal Gorge downstream, a crushed gravel pathway leads you through three tunnels carved from 1.7 billion-year-old rock, showcasing beautiful ribbons of pink and white granite. Once buried 11 miles beneath the Earth's surface, this trail boasts a remarkably smooth finish. Tunnel Drive offers a taste of the Royal Gorge's grandeur minus the crowds. With mile markers every quarter mile, ample seating, and no steep inclines, it caters to individuals of all abilities and preferences. To access Tunnel Drive, turn south from Highway 50 onto Tunnel Road near the power plant on Cañon City's western outskirts. Continue along this road for approximately half a mile until you reach a yellow gate marking the trail's beginning.
