2024 has been filled with the unexpected. In the end, we are so grateful we have been able to hold a peaceful space for a few.

Nightly rates have been adjusted to under $200 per night. It sleeps 8 people with 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Enjoy the million dollar mountain view on a 700 square foot deck that has seating, grill, and salt water hot tub! We are located in a sweet spot in between Asheville and Maggie Valley.

Let's be real. When you rent a short-term rental, you say a prayer, chant to the Gods, and cross all your fingers and toes that "it is what it is." What you see in pictures is the truth of what you will be driving up to, resting your head on at night, and making memories with friends and family.

Today, our Thanksgiving guests arrived. I checked in to make sure all was okay. And they responded via text, "Hello! Yes, we made it. It's so beautiful! Better than I imagined. Thank You."

My friends, this allows me to sleep well at night, knowing they are satisfied and at ease with where they will be for their holiday.

This image was taken this afternoon at Lake Junaluska. It is a short 15-minute drive from The Mountain Life. There is a sidewalk around the lake, playground, coffee shop, and more to explore. Catch-and-release fishing is allowed. You can also drop your paddleboard or kayak in the water;)

This is one of our family's favorite places to visit weekly. Neighboring Waynesville has many options for boutiques, restaurants, and breweries.

Fire Pit Upgrade!

When we were preparing The Mountain Life for short-term rentals, we were deeply in covid. Materials were either not available or astronomical in price, so the fire pit was what it was because of this.

Today the fire pit got a dynamic and much needed ugrade. And, the chairs are still available for those who may have trouble sitting closer to the earth😉

The Mountain Life is open! Hiking trails on the Blue Ridge Pakway are opening like Graveyard Fields and Black Balsam K**b. Bent Creek Trail going towards Asheville is also open. Grititude is the emotion of feeling equal grief and gratitude. Then there is guiltitude - equally feeling guilty and gratitude.

A friend from Burnsville (Sherrill Bailey, who is okay) visited us and shared it with me. It fits many of us who didn't lose everything, including our loved ones, for those who are resuming life as much as we can before Hurricane Helene. I am not sure life before Helene is even possible because the landscape is different for many; our hearts are entwined differently, and hopefully, this feeling of rising above our differences will linger on and on.

Danny and I were fortunate. We have been extending help to friends, supplies to relief locations, and volunteering when possible.

Here, we sit in our new home with many projects in the works or on the books to start during all of this. Contacting these businesses felt selfish, uncompassionate, and simply wrong. However, we didn't have to. They reached out to us. They need to work, and their employees need to work. They were all looking forward to a break from the aftermath, making money and clocking into something else.

It still feels weird...

WNC is rebuilding and repairing with the help of so many; it makes that lump in your throat pronounced, and the words get stuck because of the immense overwhelm. If you have been sharing your time, resources, and even shares on social media...
