Annual Safety and Ethics & Compliance Trainings

Over the last several weeks, Barletta was proud to host Michael Wallace of The Wallace Company, LLC, and Tony Leone, Esq, of Hinckley Allen, for our annual safety training sessions and ethics and compliance training workshops. Safety Zone: Toolbox Talk for Confined Spaces

Many workplaces contain areas that are considered "confined spaces" because, while they are not necessarily designed for people, they are large enough for workers to enter and perform certain jobs. A confined space has limited means for entry or exit and is not designed for continuous occupancy. Confined spaces include, tanks, vessels, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults, pits, manholes, tunnels, equipment housings, ductwork, pipelines, etc.

Three years ago this month, Barletta completed the MWRA Wachusett Aqueduct Pump Station! Construction included a brand new 13,925 square foot, 240-million-gallons per day pumping station including 7 vertical turbine pumps with 750 horsepower motors, an 84" pump discharge line, and connects to and reroutes the existing 120" Wachusett Aqueduct Bypass line valued at $50M.

Fatigue is one of the leading causes of injury in the workplace. Fatigue is the condition of being physically or mentally tired or exhausted. Extreme fatigue can lead to uncontrolled and involuntary shutdown of the brain.

When fatigue occurs, you will make errors in judgment which can cause hazardous safety concerns for both you and your team.

Safety Zone: Toolbox Talk for Trenching and Excavation Safety

OSHA trench and excavation safety standards concentrate on safe access and routine inspections. Safe access to all excavation exits and entrances is crucial to maintaining the safety of all crew members on each job site. Trench inspections help identify and eliminate excavation hazards and provide workers the opportunity to note any existing or predictable dangerous working conditions.

The Environmental Compliance Committee has selected the Codman Yard Improvements Project as November’s Project of the Month for Environmental Excellence! 🌍

This project may have a tight footprint, but we’re making every square foot count! Through calculated planning and innovative construction techniques, we’re enhancing rail infrastructure while prioritizing sustainable practices. From reducing material waste to using eco-conscious practices like wheel washing, we’re committed to keeping our environmental impact as small as possible. This specific job site also uses portable environmental monitors to ensure that construction emissions, such as dust, don't reach our friendly neighbors!

Safety Zone: Toolbox Talk for Safety Data Sheets

To ensure proper chemical safety in the workplace, information about the identities and hazards of all chemicals must be made available and written clearly for all employees.

As part of OSHA’s Standard, chemical manufacturers and importers are required to evaluate the hazards of the chemicals they produce or import and prepare labels and safety data sheets to convey all hazard information.

Erosion Control: Protecting Our Job Sites and the Environment 🌍

Erosion may seem like a natural process, but if not properly managed, it can have serious consequences—water pollution, soil loss, and even structural damage.

Why Erosion Control Matters:

1. Protects Water Quality 🏞️: Keeps sediment out of rivers, lakes, and oceans.
2. Prevents Soil Loss 🌱: Preserves vital topsoil for vegetation.

Make it Happen Monday: We are thrilled to announce that the
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority - MBTA Wi******er Center Station has partially reopened for commuter rail service as of October 1, 2024!

The partial opening includes the main station headhouses south of Waterfield Road and the station’s southeast ramp. The southeast of the station will assist all passengers riding both inbound and outbound and will be fully accessible.

Upon the partial opening, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey
offered, "This Wi******er station will make it easier for residents to get to and from where they need to go and for visitors to access the area." And noted, “Our administration is proud to support the work the MBTA is doing to make our public transportation system more reliable and accessible and improve quality of life for the people we serve.”

Full opening of the station is anticipated for Spring 2025!
