Reason #49453 to not go into flood waters. This was found in a fence after Hurricane Ian. This type of gar normally doesn't harm people, but keep in mind other things in the water may not be as forgiving. Credit: WFTV Ulen Hodges

EYE OF HURRICANE IAN 🌀 One of the rarest shots you’ll ever see in Southwest Florida. The sun coming out in the eye of an almost Category 5 hurricane. Note the stadium effect and curvature of the eye from this WINK News viewer’s home in Cape Coral.

Thankfully, our home suffered very minimal damage during hurricane Ian.
Doug and I stayed bunkered at the house during the hurricane. It is something I never want to experience again. The only damage we suffered was that our entire lanai screen cage was torn to shreds, once the back end of hurricane Ian came barreling towards the back end of the house. We had absolutely no flooding, very little storm surge and absolutely no water damage. We are very fortunate and extremely grateful. To think that Doug and I sat through a cat five hurricane is crazy. We do believe that the Matlacha, wildlife preserve that’s behind us, served as a buffer and wall of protection between the Gulf of Mexico and our community. Naturally, we lost power and therefore no running water no air conditioning and no flushable toilets. We had our bathtubs filled with water so we can use that to flush the toilets temporarily lol. I am not a pioneer woman so, the next afternoon, after the hurricane had passed,Doug and I left the home and headed up to the Tampa area where we found a hotel to stay at until power is restored in our area. Hopefully, that will be within a week or sooner. We will head back to the house to clean up the lanai cage pieces, and have it replaced asap. Calls are already in to Dr. Screen. Very thankful. Stay well everyone.

Yes, they truly are angels. It would be nice if they would be allowed to help. It’s a shame that FPL/LCEC doesn’t want to pay their scale. Help should be accepted and pay should not be an option. Human life is more valuable than the almighty dollar for crying out loud. Get your priorities straight.

HOW AMAZING IS THIS?! 👏🏻🔌 Look at all the linemen and women ready to get our power back on in Southwest Florida! Staging area at the Collier County Fairgrounds. Thank you for helping our community!
