So far, no new date for moving the SS United States…… but progress has been made with the United States Coast Guard clearing it for travel…

The Coast Guard says it has concluded its additional testing to ensure the SS United States is fit to be towed to the Gulf of Mexico. Here's what's next.

We had our dry dock inspection with the United States Coast Guard.

Six Marine Inspectors from Sector Delaware Bay, went over the 110 foot long Cape May Whale Watcher with careful attention to detail.

While the inspection team gave the boat a thorough look over- the hardest part of the day was thawing out the hatches to open spaces before inspection began.

Now the yard work begins as we continue to countdown to our first trip of 2025!

First snow of 2025 was a big one! We recorded 8” and got another inch overnight. We are still digging out but now the sun is coming out. The wind is howling out of the Northwest. Looks like a “real” January day out there for Cape May!

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗽 𝗼𝗳 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟱!

Just 61 days from now we will be back on the water in search of Humpback, Fin, Minke and Right whales, Bottlenose and Common Dolphins, Harbor and Grey Seals, Cownose Rays, Great White sharks, and anything else that swims along with all the creatures that fly from the tiny Tufted Titmouse to the mighty Bald Eagle!

This scene that is playing out in this video is one of awe, and caution. Humpback whales are protected by the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972. No vessel is permitted to approach within 100 feet of a large whale species, and really 300 feet is best practice. In this video, the whale had disappeared from sight on a dive, and resurfaced right next to the boat, which was drifting, out of gear, with engines off. This highlights both how awesome a close encounter can be and why the Atlantic Region Whale Watching Guidelines exist. Whales are unpredictable.

From our family to your family

Merry Christmas from our Merry Crewsmas party!

So much to be thankful for- 2024 was a true gift, from all the marine life to some good weather, particularly in the fall, and so many wonderful patrons, 2024 was amazing.

This year would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of this amazing crew! The crew never comes down to one person, but rather the abilities of all the members of the crew and how they work together. This crew performed admirably trip after trip.

We look forward to seeing you all again in the New Year. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!
