Shorebird migration is officially underway in Cape May and to celebrate our Bird of the Week is Greater Yellowlegs! Greater Yellowlegs are a common spring and fall migrant to Cape May and are often found in the salt marshes and mudflats.

If you'd like to track this bird down over the next few weeks, be sure to visit Cape May Point State Park, South Cape May Meadows, or Cape May NWR Two Mile Beach Unit. If you're looking for a guided program, check out our Events Calendar to attend one of our bird walks or hop on a tour with Birding By Boat on the Osprey to see them up close and personal!

Look out for more CMBO Birds of the Week posts to learn more about the birds of Cape May!

Somethings not quite right in the top photo. This tern and another next to it seem to have ended up with the wrong families. They were moved by the last new moon tide and I'm not sure they ended up on the correct eggs. Been watching them for a week now and things seem to be going okay so far. The bottom photo is for comparison of what the tern chicks are supposed to look like.

Tis the season for the Osprey chicks. The early nesters have three chicks already and dad is looking for some big fish to keep everyone fed. Morning trips this week will be the time to check them out. You may even see one on the day of their hatching.
