**The Trunk Lady of the Hotel Macomber**

One of the most famous ghost stories in Cape May revolves around a mysterious figure known as the "Trunk Lady." This spectral visitor is often spotted at the historic Hotel Macomber.

Legend has it that the Trunk Lady was a frequent guest at the hotel, always arriving with her distinctive steamer trunk. She would spend her summers in Cape May, enjoying the seaside air and the company of other guests. However, her spirit, it seems, has remained tied to the hotel long after her physical departure.

Guests and staff have reported various paranormal encounters, including the sound of footsteps echoing through the halls, unexplained temperature fluctuations, and the eerie sensation of being watched. Some have even claimed to have seen the ghostly figure of the Trunk Lady herself, carrying her antique trunk and disappearing into the shadows.

Civil War Encampment is this coming weekend! Sat, Sep 14 & Sun, Sep 15!

The Civil War comes to life at the Village’s annual Civil War Encampment.
Visitors can tour Union and Confederate camps and meet authentically clad and equipped military and civilian reenactors who will discuss the everyday lives of Civil War soldiers and the roles civilians played in supporting them. The Village, which re-creates a rural community in the 1800s, serves as the perfect backdrop for presenting this event to the public. The battle reenactment begins at 2:00pm. Visitors will be unable to enter the Village grounds from 1:45 pm to the end of battle. It is strongly encouraged that visitors arrive before 1:30pm. The Village buildings will be closed during the battle and will reopen afterward.
