It’s been a heartbreaking start to 2025, with over 80,000 residents evacuated, thousands of homes lost, and tragic fatalities in Southern California. We hope everyone is staying safe and alert. For status updates on the fires and evacuation information, please follow for additional resources.

If you are wondering how to help, you can make a difference in supporting recovery and future emergency preparedness by contributing to CCF’s Wildfire Recovery Fund.

Using data from CalFire and the CDC’s Social Vulnerability Index, our focus is on reaching underserved communities to ensure every dollar goes where it’s needed most and no one is left behind. The Wildfire Recovery Fund provides life-saving support: safe housing, mental health care, medical aid, infrastructure rebuilding, emergency communication upgrades, financial assistance, firefighter safety gear, and more. The fund also offers labor law education and immigration services for low-wage workers, as well as health education for caregivers and day laborers.

⚠Capitola Village Closed Due to High Surf and Flooding⚠

Wave height and power have pushed seawater into the Village.
🚫The Village is closed for public safety.🚫

‼️Occupants of the Venetians should evacuate water-facing units immediately.

❗️Village residents in the 100 blocks of Esplanade and Monterey should shelter in place, or voluntarily leave the Village area.

Closures are in effect until further notice.

It is that time of the year again. Santa’s Elves will be stopping by Woodworm to pick up your child’s letters to Santa. Please have letter in by December 22. So Santa has time to answer all letters with a return address.

Capitola's newly-elected officials will be sworn-in at our City Council meeting on December 12, 2024, at 5:30 PM in the City Council Chambers at 420 Capitola Avenue. All are welcome to attend!

The elected officials to be sworn-in are:
Gerry Jensen, City Councilmember
Melinda Orbach, City Councilmember

They will be joining existing City Councilmembers Yvette Brooks, Joe Clarke, and Alexander Pedersen (pictured in lower left). The City Council will appoint a Mayor and Vice Mayor for 2025 at this meeting.

With the conclusion of the election, we'd like to extend sincere thanks to every candidate who stepped forward. Each person who ran for office demonstrated a genuine desire to make a difference in Capitola.
