Five Stars! Glamping at its finest, is what we were looking for and Kathleen delivered it without a doubt! Surrounded by the sounds of the Island with the comforts of home, yet still feeling like you are out in the middle of it all. This place is one of the big reasons we love coming to the Islands for vacation from it all.

Another February review:

Kathy’s Tropical Hideaway is just that. A private space in a lush garden, it is so relaxing that once you’re there you won’t want to leave. We had everything we needed for a weeks’ stay, including the benefit of a big closet full of all things ‘beach’. Boogie boards, snorkel equipment, umbrella and chairs. It is such a bonus to not have to drag those things with you. Kathy was so accommodating to any request and also respected our privacy. She and the other’s living on the property are friendly and informative, but will give you the space to be alone. The bed was comfy, the hot tub was clean and inviting, the outdoor shower had lots of hot water, and the breezes were wonderful. Ask Kathy to see her photo studio where she has examples of her work for sale. She is a very talented photographer and uses many different styles. Our advice is to bring earplugs for nighttime. You get used to the wildlife sounds, but if you’re sensitive to noise, you’ll want them. We can’t wait to go back!

February review:

We loved the atmosphere of this great, laid back place. So fun for us as a couple. Location is easy to access, a little cooler than sea level, pleasantly breezy, close enough to play at numerous beaches, and visit the entire island. You have plenty of privacy, but Kathy the host, and Mark, the caretaker are quickly accessible and ready to help when needed. Friendly, willing to offer suggestions. Yes there are insects, frogs, and roosters talking at times, but we found them funny and relaxing after the initial introduction. Facilities are completely adequate for preparing meals when you want to. Bed is comfortable. Outdoor shower and hot tub were fun.Really, our stay felt magical, relaxed, and thoroughly enjoyable. We both loved it and hope to return next year.

Another December review:

Kathleen was a great host. Her tropical getaway was a peaceful oasis where we could fall asleep to the coqui frogs and wake up to roosters. It was a shared space with people living upstairs and on the land but still felt VERY private. You definitely get a hefty dose of nature but luckily all the bugs and animals stayed outside of the living quarters, which was really great. We asked for more coffee at one point and she made sure she brought us some and was very proactive in taking care of our needs and ensuring we had the best possible stay. This was a very desirable home away from home for us to enjoy our beautiful vacation.

Very authentic in the middle of beautiful nature. Very private and cozy. A lot of wildlife entertains at night so you felt like part of the forest. We were very satisfied and had a great holiday.

Kathy's place is amazing. A little hideaway that was perfect for our honeymoon. Secluded, peaceful, magical. She was a wonderful host. We had issues with our plane and so we arrived a day late and Kathy went the extra mile to make sure she was available for checking us in and giving us a very detailed tour of the area. She had told us that she wanted our stay to be perfect and it was. The island is beautiful. She had provided a folder with local spots to eat, swim, and many other options. We would love to stay here again in the future!

Great place in Captain Cook, breezy and quiet. Try a dip in the pool while you’re there, and there’s a great bakery stand near the entrance of the driveway. We stayed 3 nights and had a great time. Outdoor shower was very relaxing. Would stay again. 😍

Kathy was and is a great host. The unit was very nice and the patio and yard are very private. This is a wonderful, private and casual place. Bakery stand 40 feet away. Between 06:30 & 07:30am the local bakery smells drift through patio. It’s amazing. If you are looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation, this is the place. Great place, Great host. Very private. We hope to return soon.

Kathleen’s place is a true gem. Tucked away, it really is a tropical oasis. It was the perfect get away for a tired teacher. Kathy is a phenomenal host and so kind. This place is amazing. I cannot wait to stay again.

5 stars! My fiance and I stayed here on our trip to the Big Island and loved it. We love camping so this was kind of like a glamping experience. Have to be lovers of the outdoors and nature!

New June review:

It’s hard to choose a place to start when everything is so wonderful. The space is adorable and has everything you need for your stay. We used it as our home base for exploring the island, the close proximity to excellent snorkeling was amazing. We spent one day just at the space enjoying the hot tub and bbq, watching the sunset from the garden. I loved being serenaded to sleep by the tree frogs and gently awakened by the birds. Kathleen is a wonderful host and gave us a tour of the extensive tropical garden. I would stay here again!

Surrounded by lush vegetation, decorated with love and perfectly located close to great snorkling spots. Kathy and Mark were very mindful and always helpful hosts. We felt right at home in this beautiful tropical paradise and would come back anytime.

New April review:

What a beautiful place. The surrounding plants, fruit trees, coconut trees, ect are so lush. It is very well kept. The Hot tub was a great touch, as was the tiki torch outside the tub. My boyfriend enjoyed the pool. I loved the close proximity to Two Step (a wonderful place to snorkel). All the snorkel gear was available for our use, as well as beach gear, coolers and more. The Bed was divine. It felt like we were in a jungle tree house, and we were never hot. it is a bit of an altitude change from Kona, so it does keep a bit cooler which I loved for sleeping. There were great local magazines and maps to use while you stay. The bathroom took some getting used to, (no door, just two curtains), but if I needed more privacy, I just made my boyfriend go outside to mediate by the beautiful Buddha statue under a tree outside.
