Captiva Cruises and the SCCF will offer an educational sunset birding cruise on March 4. Participants will hear about the ecology of the back bay estuary, learn about the shorebird monitoring program, watch birds coming in to roost, identify birds along the way and receive updates on the islands’ bird populations.

We had a beautiful day on the water with the No Child Left on Shore program. The children of New Horizons of Southwest Florida spent the day searching for shells, trawling for marine life, sighting manatees and dolphins, and learning about the importance of seagrass in Pine Island Sound.

No Child Left on Shore is a partnership with the SCCF that provides local youth who rarely interact with our coastal ecosystem the chance to experience it up close.

Today marks one year since Hurricane Ian made landfall on our treasured Southwest Florida Coast and barrier islands. Not a day goes by that we don’t think about that day and the multitude of emotions that it brings. Sadness, fear, heartbreak and anxiety have slowly turned into hopefulness, optimism and pride with how far we’ve come as a family-owned business and community. With each trip we take and smiling guest face, our hearts fill a bit more. For some, the course ahead is still uncharted or full of swells. Today, we honor and applaud the progress made, support those still navigating their way and look forward to the many more bright days ahead.
