We spent much of October and early November installing a Finnish sauna and Japanese Ofuro soaking tub. Yesterday as rain threatened we put up some holiday lights and readied the pool for a post sauna plunge, just before guests arrived for a getaway weekend.

This unusually warm weather has been perfect for putting up holiday lights. Our Avion camper turned out to be a perfect vehicle for reaching up into the trees where the only other option would be a lift.

We had a freak but lovely snow this week. It put soft caps on the coneflower heads and sent birds and squirrels fluttering to the feeders. It was gone the next day. A harbinger of winter, even while the warm fall has left leaves green and chrysanthemums blooming.

We have just been certified by the Illinois Audubon Society as a Bird and Butterfly Sanctuary! Our guests enjoy our extensive gardens which change with the seasons.

We love the birds and butterflies we attract and nurture, and are proud to have this designation.

Family coming for the holidays? The Pool House is centrally located in historic Carbondale, Illinois. Our 900 square foot stand-alone guest house sleeps 4. It is furnished with a full gourmet kitchen and seating area, private bedroom with king size bed, and upstairs family room with 55" TV and full size futon couch that lowers into a comfortable bed. A twin airbed allows overflow sleeping. Grills and fire pit are great for family gatherings.

For a long or short stay, we set up the Pool House to meet your needs. A towel warmer brings the comfort of Denmark to Carbondale, and Niels Hvass's Cutter Stool and box hold all the towels you'll need. The over-under washer-dryer is especially useful for longer stays.

Rest in a king size bed with pillows of your choice. A matching bureau and wardrobe with an ironing board and iron tucked beside it keep your clothes neat.
