It's FOMO Friday! Where are our BIWI clients going right now? Let's see...
T reached out to book a mother/son get away out West to see some National Parks. I was able to find a small group 7 night guided tour (there are only 7 of them on this tour) with a company who specializes in adventure travel.
They have spent the past few days hiking and exploring the best of Utah and Arizona National Parks - places like Zion, Bryce Canyon, Antelope Canyon and are heading to the Grand Canyon today! They have a great tour guide who knows the area, a bus to take them from spot to spot and have plenty of time to explore each location on their own - with everything from easy trails to more adventurous options for skilled hikers! So today we got to visit two fascinating, but very different, locations in the city of Bucharest. I always fall in love with places I visit... there is something about connecting with the locals and hearing their stories and history that fills me with happiness and reassures me over and over again that there are lots and lots of really good and awesome people in the world that overcome some really crappy situations but still make the best of their lives.
Our first stop was at the Spring Palace of the Communist Dictator Nicolea Ceausescu. He was the leader of Romania during the Soviet takeover from 1965-1989. He and his family lived in opulence (they had the Palace redesigned to meet their taste during his reign) while the Romanian people were starving and spent winters with no heat. They hid their opulent lifestyle by not allowing anyone into the private quarters of their Palace. When the Revolution happened in 1989, the people stormed the Palace and saw what was hidden from them...gold bathrooms... indoor pool with mosaic walls that took years to complete...dressing rooms that contained 48 closets filled with dresses and furs... indoor gardens... the list goes on. The second stop was very unique and so interesting I didn't have enough time to explore everything...I'd love to go back for a few hours to finish seeing it all! It was an outdoor museum and was filled with examples of real Romanian homes that were physically moved to this spot from the 12 regions of Romania. The insides were as they were when they were moved. They also had local vendors throughout the complex selling their handmade crafts from those regions. It was incredible and so much fun to visit with the vendors and try to understand each other! No need to barter here...a handmade painted piece of pottery was about $1.50 usd. I paid $10usd for a set of 6 beautiful handmade espresso cups and a holder for them! I have no idea how I get all the stuff home but I happily gave up my coins for the stuff I bought!!
We finished up our afternoon and evening by walking across Bucharest to the Old City with a stop at a chocolaterie for some pre-dinner desserts and dinner at a gorgeous restaurant in Old City before walking back to the hotel.

As you start planning your vacations for 2023, consider using me as your travel agent. If you are wondering why....keep reading!
1) I offer full service travel planning. That means when you hire me, I'm assisting from the planning of the trip through the getting you there to getting you home. That includes being available to you "in destination" so if another Southwest meltdown happens like happened this week, or something similar, I'm the one on the phone on hold for 4 hours to get your flight changed or to get you rebooked on another airline while you continue enjoying your vacation.
2) Vacations today are more than just getting there and home...travelers today want experiences. As a travel agent, I have access to travel experts all over the world that can help to plan a vacation experience that you will remember for a lifetime. They know the places you want to see. They know the best times to visit this place or the best restaurant in that village or town to see a sunset. They know the things that can make the difference between a frustrating experience of a novice vs. the picture perfect memory of a lifetime.
3) I can get you a great deal, often with amenities or pricing that isn't available to you as a consumer. I'm a member of a host travel agency that books hundreds of thousands of rooms a year and negotiates great rates for clients in both hotels and on cruises. If you book it yourself, you might get the same rate...but if you book it through me, you may get an additional onboard credit, a free excursion not available to other guests, free wifi or parking or breakfast, or a special room class that isn't available when you check on the site yourself because we have blocks of rooms being held for our clients that are showing up on the public inventory as not available.
4) I do group travel (multi generations, girls trips, mother/daughter trips, family vacations, etc.) and destination weddings as well! I get great group rates and if we book 10 rooms or more (some all inclusive resorts are only 5 rooms), I can negotiate a discount for all rooms in that group.
5) I've traveled. A LOT. I'm considered a Caribbean expert but I can book travel anywhere in the world. If I've not been there, I research and talk to other travel agents who have and get their input and advice on the best places to stay, the best things to do, and will work with you to ensure that you get that vacation of a lifetime. I've helped clients jump out of airplanes, go scuba diving in the clearest waters in the world, rent their dream car, had them transported to their hotel in a helicopter as a free amenity...I can help you with the "should we do this or that" questions...and maybe the answer is, well, have you considered this instead?
6) I know the staff at the resorts. I know who to call for special requests. I touch base with them to let them know you are coming and that you are my clients and I make sure they are aware of any special requests or requirements that will make your stay exceptional.
7) I make sure your investment is protected. Travel insurance today is a must and I can usually get you better rates and better coverage than the insurance offered by airlines or vacation clubs (they only protect that part of your vacation).
8) Most importantly...I LOVE planning trips for clients. I love knowing that I help in creating those memories for couples, friends and families that will last a lifetime. I take care of you. It's my super power!

New year, new goals...when I started my travel agency business it was with the intention of focusing on group travel and retreats for women. There is a magic that happens when women gather together away from their daily routine and responsibilities. It's not your typical family vacation or romance trip. It's an opportunity to focus on yourself and refill your own heart and mind. It is therapeutic, it is healing and it is magical.
But planning group travel requires a lot of time and details and I was also working full time so I didn't feel like I could focus on that and do it well. So I allowed my business to grow organically and took the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of the travel industry through planning honeymoons, family trips, etc, on a smaller scale.
But guess what? I'm retired now...and my birthday gift to myself is to start this journey of creating wonderful opportunities for women to travel together to places we read about and to be able to step away for a few days from their daily responsibilities and focus on themselves. For a few days, I invite them to allow me to take care of them (for a change). For a few days, they can enjoy being no one's wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, friend, cousin, co-worker. For a few days, they can sit on a beach and watch the waves and a sunset, they can explore different cultures and make new friends. They can clear their head, the can plan, they can heal, they can rest, they can grow.
