I think this is one of those secret places that is fantastic that not many tourists know about. They opened a few years ago, are dog friendly, frequently have live music, AND have some of the best food and drinks in town. The service is also incredible and all their waitstaff are friendly and accommodating. I’ve been going here since my children were just born and any parent knows that dining out with a newborn can be stressful but they’ve always helped with getting us high chairs and anything else we needed.

They also have their own parking lot so parking is free year around 🥳

Congrats to all the kids moving in this weekend! I went to UNCW for both my undergrad and grad. I dreamed of going to this school since I was 5 years old. I wanted to be a marine biologist but I ended up going into accounting but my brother graduated from UNCW with a degree in marine biology!

For anyone else obsessing over “The Summer I Turned Pretty” series, Brown university was actually UNCW. They’ve been featured in lot of movies and tv shows like Dawson’s Creek too.

Our condo on Carolina Beach is about 20 minutes down the road from UNCW and perfect for family visiting! We’ll let you know when it’s back up and running but in the meantime congrats for move in day kiddo!

I know I know…its still summer BUT it’s not too late to plan for fall and winter. We love spending all seasons at the beach and last Christmas we even got to run into the grinch! This day it was 70 degrees and sunny. Most places reduce nightly rates drastically and lower nightly minimum stays to 2 nights! We have 2 night minimums on our house on Oak Island and we added a fire pit this year which would be great for chilly nights.

Did you know the NC DOT operates a ferry between Pleasure Island and the South facing beaches? The ferry runs between Fort Fisher and Southport. The schedules vary based on the season and day (weekday vs weekend) but it’s a great way to explore the two areas for the day! The ride costs $7 each way and you can drive, bike or walk on. This video captures a windy but beautiful day in February from Southport to Fort Fisher. We love the ferry for many reasons: 1- its a great way to easily go between our rental properties 2- fun way to see ships and look for dolphins 3- kid friendly! If you’re staying on Pleasure Island, people will tell you to take the ferry to Southport and if you’re on Oak Island, people will tell you to take the ferry to the aquarium or to the boardwalk in Carolina Beach. Whatever your destination, the ferry is a great way to get there. When we visited Oak Island for the 1st time, we fell in love with the Middleton Park area and knew we wanted a house close by. Luckily, our short-term rental AirBnB is located on the same street! We have small children and absolutely fell in love with how great this area is for them. From the parks and splashpad to all the special events and the access itself has an outdoor shower and bathrooms.
