Even with rain in the forecast for Saturday, the first star party of February will go on as planned at Jack C. Davis Observatory. If weather prevents observation of planets, JCDO Director Dr. Thomas Herring is planning telescope room tours and viewing of astrophotos.
Dr. Herring said he'd like attendees to be able to observe planets throughout February and some of March. "Hopefully, we'll have clear weather for the Feb. 22 and the March 1 star parties and can see at least Jupiter and Mars," he said.
Star parties are free to the community and run from 6 to 11 p.m. on two Saturdays per month at the observatory, which is located at 2269 Vanpatten Ave. on the northern end of the Carson City campus.

In case you missed it yesterday, KTVN in Reno interviewed WNC Professor of Psychology Dr. Rebecca Bevans for a story about the impact of synthetic food dyes on people — particularly children — following the Food and Drug Administration banning Red Dye No. 3.
Through years of research and family experiences, Dr. Bevans has become a food dye expert who plays a key role in the recently released documentary "To Dye For". To view KTVN reporter Bob Deiters' interview of Dr. Bevans, go to

WNC Experience:
You have a lot going on, but you’re not alone. Take time to listen to your fellow students and perhaps share your thoughts through WNC Experience, a Canvas-based gathering spot where students gain a better connection with their peers and the college.

Enjoy being a college student:
College is a unique time in your life, and it's important to have fun and create lasting memories. Strike a balance between your academic responsibilities and enjoying the social aspects of college. ASWN will hold its annual election this semester. It's great opportunity to represent fellow WNC students. Learn more at wnc.edu/wildcat-life/student-government.

Important dates:
There are a number of key dates for students to be aware of during spring semester. Nursing students can visit with representatives of hospitals, health care facilities and higher ed programs at a Feb. 25 Job Fair and Professional Development event. Students can keep informed about all upcoming events via the vibrant campus TVs and on the website at wnc.edu/calendar.

Focus on your health:
