We now have two groups out on tour.
One in Peru who are loving the country. That's Mom and Daughter bonding while enjoying the scenery of Machu Picchu.

The second group is enjoying a cruise aboard the American Queen on the Mississippi River.

February 2 is Groundhog Day or Candlemas Day if you are European. In the U.S., we celebrate this Pennsylvania Dutch tradition which was made famous in the popular Bill Murray movie "Groundhog Day". In fact, after two years of Covid, Groundhog Day feels familiar since we seem stuck in the same scenes over and over again.
It's also tradition (oh those French) to eat crepes or pancakes on this day, a tradition we can certainly get into! The entire family takes a turn at making crepes/pancakes and this is how it is done:
Each family member prepares and cooks a crepe while holding a coin in hand. This is believed to assure wealth and happiness until the next Candlemas celebration. Another tradition involves taking turns to flip the pancake with a flick of the wrist, deftly maneuvering the pan with the right hand while holding a coin in the left. The crepe must not fall, stick to the ceiling, or come back down in shreds. Achieving this feat successfully will bring happiness.
Good luck! We'd rather go to Heidi's Family Restaurant Carson City in Carson City and let them serve us some of their great crepes/pancakes/waffle and eat them with coins in our hands for good luck then passing them to our server for their good luck.
Guess where we are having crepes/pancakes or waffles tomorrow!
And, don't worry if this rodent predicts another six weeks of winter!

Carson City Health & Human Services to provide Covid booster shots Monday 10/25.
Beginning October 25, 2021, Moderna, Pfizer and Janssen's COVID-19 vaccine reinforcements will be available at all CCHHS community vaccination events.
Those who received the Pfizer or Modern vaccine series are eligible for a one-time booster dose if they are:
• At least 6 months after completing previous doses
• 65 years or more
• Over 18 years living in long-term care settings
• Over 18 years of age suffering from underlying medical conditions
• Over 18 years working or living in high-risk environments
Those who received the Janssen vaccine are eligible for reinforcements if they are:
• At least 2 months since completion of the previous dose
• Over 18 years old

Be sure to mark you calendars to attend this FREE EVENT. Bring your own comfortable seating.

It’ll be a rockin’ good time on McFadden Plaza the evening of Saturday, July 3rd as the USAF Mobility Band of six full time active duty Air Force musicians perform on the McFadden Plaza stage beginning around 5:30 pm.

The talented members are part of the much larger United State Air Force Band of the Golden West that has performed in Carson City a number of times. They have shared the stage with entertainers such as Kid Rock, Daughtry, and Brad Paisley.

The band is a high-energy pop and rock band stationed at Travis Air Force Base just outside of Sacramento. According to Senior Airman Michael Roe, “Our set for this tour is very country-heavy with some rock and pop sprinkled in for variety.” Featured, too, will be some classic patriotic tunes that, according to Roe, “will be a great fit for the 4th of July.” As with all USAF concerts, veterans will be honored with service songs and are encouraged to attend.

The family event is brought to you by the Carson City Chamber of Commerce as a community service and to kick-off the 4th of July holiday in high gear since we were unable to enjoy this patriotic celebration last year.

If you plan to attend, please bring your own chairs or enjoy watching from a front row seat at The Fox Brewpub or Piazza as you enjoy dinner and drinks while watching this high-energy professional performance. Be sure to make a reservation!

Ghosts in Carson City? You'd better believe it!

There are quite a few ghosts in Carson City ready to tell their tales of yore when they worked, played and lived in some of the houses still remaining in historic downtown. Pictured on the flyer is the former home of Orion Clemens who opened his home to his brother Samuel - later known as Mark Twain. Hear the stories of the kids who once lived at the Bliss Mansion and so much more by great storyteller Mary Bennett who may or may not be a ghost herself.
