Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe Emergency Management has opened a temporary shelter at the Northern Lights Casino (6800 Y Frontage Rd, Walker, MN 56484). Power outages and cold weather have created dangerous conditions for many area residents.

Residents planning on staying in the shelter should bring all prescribed medications and medical equipment in case of the need for an extended stay. Cell Phones and chargers are also recommended.

Cots, blankets and food are available.

If you currently have power, please plan ahead for the possibility of an outage.

In the case of an emergency, please call 911.

Power Outage Tips:
Consider downed power lines energized. Stay away and call your power company or 911 right away.

Avoid carbon monoxide poisoning.

Generators, camp stoves, or charcoal grills should always be used outdoors and at least 20 feet away from windows. Never use a gas stovetop or oven to heat your home.

Check on your neighbors. Older adults and young children are especially vulnerable to extreme temperatures.

Go to a community location with power if heat or cold is extreme.

Turn off or disconnect appliances, equipment, or electronics. Power may return with momentary “surges” or “spikes” that can cause damage.

Leech Lake Gaming Administration, Northern Lights Casino, Palace Casino, White Oak Casino, Shingobee, Northern Lights Express, Che We Express and Office Supply Team. First, thanks to all of the team that has stepped up to keep our businesses open during this recent cold snap! The dedication of our LLG team, over 1,000 strong, is second to none and it has been a "wow" to be a part of the past few days! It looks like one more cold night and day, so same Winter Weather policies are in place, effective through tomorrow afternoon.

Your safety is our primary concern so if your car won't start, you do not have child care due to school closings, or you can not safely travel to work, please contact your work site and stay home. If you are at work and do not have a warm, safe ride home, please work with the shift manager to get a room for the night. This will be considered an excused absence.

Gaming Offices and Transportation will remain open to continue to meet the needs of the businesses.
