Building a bright future in our community! The City of Cedar Falls is excited to host a ribbon cutting to celebrate the renovation and expansion of Pettersen Plaza on September 6 at 10:00 a.m. The event will include opening remarks from Mayor Danny Laudick.

Located in the College Hill district, Pettersen Plaza was named after citizen Hugh Pettersen who established and developed the College Hill Neighborhood Association and served for 16 years as the College Hill Arts Festival director. He was also a charter member of the Cedar Falls Art and Culture Board. The renovation of the plaza was part of the Olive Street Box Culvert Project which began in 2023 and included the extension of the box culvert to the west of Olive Street toward Pettersen Plaza. The project incorporated the construction of a box culvert in the stream channel and created a pedestrian access and amenity space above which built on the existing plaza.

The upgrades provided improved pedestrian access and amenity space, fresh landscaping, and enhanced lighting to bring a beautiful and multi-use public space to the College Hill area. 💛💜
