PASSPORT DAY HAPPENING SOON!

The UNI Study Abroad Center will be hosting their annual Passport Day on Wednesday, November 20th from 11 AM to 3 PM in 103 East Bartlett. We will be partnering with Black Hawk County Recorders Office during this event for on-site passport applications and FREE passport photos taken by our staff.

✨STAFF SPOTLIGHT✨

Our second staff spotlight is UNI's Study Abroad Director: Stephanie Rojas! Stephanie studied abroad in both Poland and China and has done so much traveling since then. Her favorite part of her job is seeing the impact of study abroad on UNI students. Being a low-income, first-generation college student myself, I had doubts about being able to study abroad and so it is so rewarding to see students from similar backgrounds take advantage of the experience and be a part of their journey.

Some of Stephanie's hobbies include hanging out with her family, trying new things, activities outside, going on walks, and thrifting. Her bucket list travel destination is: Antarctica is her last continent to check off and so some day, she'd like to go there. She also love penguins so she hopes that trip would be a two for one!

"Study abroad challenges you to step out of your comfort zone, build global networks, and gain unique experiences that set you apart. It is easily one of the most memorable experiences and most transformative! Many folks say that they'll wait until they're older. I was once told that travel is different at every stage of your life and that you'll never be '20-something in Paris again." While every travel I've had after my 20-somethings (i.e. family trips with kids, work travels with colleagues, etc.) has been incredible, it's not what my study abroad experience was and I'm so grateful for that era of my life. ✨STAFF SPOTLIGHT✨

Our first staff spotlight is one of our full-time study abroad advisors: Jamie Glanz! Jamie studied abroad in Stirling, Scotland for a semester in 2020 and has done loads of traveling since. Her favorite part of her job is seeing the personal growth that students gain from their international experience and hearing their stories when they come back to UNI!

Some of her hobbies include reading, rock climbing, and spending time outdoors. Her bucket list travel destinations are New Zealand, Thailand, Greece, Czech Republic, and Germany.

🌴PURA VIDA🌴

Study Abroad in Costa Rica this summer on our Faculy-led program with Professor Demastes! 🤙🏼 Demastes has done hands-on field research in Costa Rica in the past and loves traveling and observing unique ecosystems! Through this Study Abroad program you will stay at a biological station on the Osa Peninsula. You will also visit volcanoes and other mountain regions including the breathtaking Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, among other things.
