Hello, all!
Well, we promised a Blue Chair update and wanted to wait to share the details until we had some good news! So here goes…
We are making terrific progress on Blue Chair! Truly, it’s been a labor of love and while we hated doing it all again just a year later, we learned a lot and this year, drying out and repairs have gone faster with last year’s learning and “experience.” It goes without saying that Robb is amazing and has kept us on the right track. His happy and tenacious determination was the best, even when we were at our saddest as we mucked out the mud and baby crabs… again.
One of the things we did this year was move 80% of the furnishings out of the house the day before the storm. We rented a truck, drove through the night, packed her up and hauled almost everything to storage. There were a few things we just couldn’t fit, so they were lost. We then found we could not get a hotel and wanting to beat the storm, we drove through the night again back to Georgia. Whew! (Apparently, 60 is the new 35, because if you had told me we’d be doing this the year that we both turn 60, I would have thought you were crazy.) But it was all worth it. We were able to save most of our favorite furnishings.
As to the house, many final touches are being completed this week. We are so relieved to see her coming back!
Walls are all trimmed and painted.
New floors are down.
New kitchen and bathroom cabinets arrive tomorrow.
New appliances arrive in two weeks.
New lift station alarm gets installed on Friday.
Final touch ups and final clean all happen on Friday and Saturday!
Many of you LOVED the beds/pillows/mattresses. We saved them from the flood! We saved almost everything… the Smeg and Nespresso coffee makers, the cute dishes, pots and pans, etc. etc. And because of some things we learned through last year’s remodel, some things will be even better.
If all goes well this week, we will be moving back into Blue Chair this weekend.
Now, what’s not done?
Some of the exterior items are in line for completion this month.
HVAC service is started but not yet complete.
We will need a big exterior clean up once the exterior items are done.
So we are still on track for completion by New Year’s Eve, but all in all, we are six weeks ahead of where we were last year and the storm was a month later.
Don’t hesitate to book for this spring! We appreciate every single one of our guests and we love sharing this special place with you! Blue Chair will be ready and waiting for your visit!
Photos to follow this weekend!
Warm regards,
Robb and Sharon
P.S. Does anyone know what happened to the big blue Adirondack chair that was out front with our Blue Chair logo on it? It grew “legs” and disappeared BEFORE the storm. If someone liberated it, they forgot the footstool. LOL
But… I have a plan to replace that too. Coming this spring!
