Cedar Key Cottages wishes all of our guests very happy holidays and a FANTASTIC New Year!!

We’ve had a second tough year here on Cedar Key and at Cedar Key Cottages as we have weathered a fire on Dock Street and two hurricanes. That said, though, we are so grateful to all of you and count you among our blessings.

BUT we are recovering! We are ready for your visit and are accepting bookings at both Blue Chair and Key Lime! (We are still working on plans for Calypso’s lovely Gulf-front lot with details to come.)

Blue Chair is fully repaired (again) with some new items and an all new deck and dock. We had the foresight to move the furniture out of Blue Chair and took as much as we could off island, so most of the furniture you enjoyed before is just fine. New recliners, a new plush queen bed and a WFH workstation in the second bedroom are ready for your visit. (Photos to follow!)

Key Lime is built to CAT 5 hurricane standards and had no damage in the storm. She now has an incredible open-Gulf view from the top deck. If you haven’t sipped your coffee from the top deck at Key Lime while the sun rises, you’ve missed a great experience!

We are filled with determination and hope as we enter this New Year. A big part of our island’s recovery is dependent on our wonderful guests. Whether you are coming to relax, shop or fish, there is still much to do on our little island.

We can’t do it without YOU! Our gracious guests will be the “Key” to our recovery.

Come enjoy Old Florida with us. We are here and can’t wait for your return!

With warmest regards,

Robb and Sharon

Hello, all!

Well, we promised a Blue Chair update and wanted to wait to share the details until we had some good news! So here goes…

We are making terrific progress on Blue Chair! Truly, it’s been a labor of love and while we hated doing it all again just a year later, we learned a lot and this year, drying out and repairs have gone faster with last year’s learning and “experience.” It goes without saying that Robb is amazing and has kept us on the right track. His happy and tenacious determination was the best, even when we were at our saddest as we mucked out the mud and baby crabs… again.

One of the things we did this year was move 80% of the furnishings out of the house the day before the storm. We rented a truck, drove through the night, packed her up and hauled almost everything to storage. There were a few things we just couldn’t fit, so they were lost. We then found we could not get a hotel and wanting to beat the storm, we drove through the night again back to Georgia. Whew! (Apparently, 60 is the new 35, because if you had told me we’d be doing this the year that we both turn 60, I would have thought you were crazy.) But it was all worth it. We were able to save most of our favorite furnishings.

As to the house, many final touches are being completed this week. We are so relieved to see her coming back!

Walls are all trimmed and painted.
New floors are down.
New kitchen and bathroom cabinets arrive tomorrow.
New appliances arrive in two weeks.
New lift station alarm gets installed on Friday.
Final touch ups and final clean all happen on Friday and Saturday!

Many of you LOVED the beds/pillows/mattresses. We saved them from the flood! We saved almost everything… the Smeg and Nespresso coffee makers, the cute dishes, pots and pans, etc. etc. And because of some things we learned through last year’s remodel, some things will be even better.

If all goes well this week, we will be moving back into Blue Chair this weekend.

Now, what’s not done?
Some of the exterior items are in line for completion this month.
HVAC service is started but not yet complete.
We will need a big exterior clean up once the exterior items are done.

So we are still on track for completion by New Year’s Eve, but all in all, we are six weeks ahead of where we were last year and the storm was a month later.

Don’t hesitate to book for this spring! We appreciate every single one of our guests and we love sharing this special place with you! Blue Chair will be ready and waiting for your visit!

Photos to follow this weekend!

Warm regards,

Robb and Sharon

P.S. Does anyone know what happened to the big blue Adirondack chair that was out front with our Blue Chair logo on it? It grew “legs” and disappeared BEFORE the storm. If someone liberated it, they forgot the footstool. LOL

But… I have a plan to replace that too. Coming this spring!

Many of you have so kindly asked how you can help our little island recover from this devestating event. There are a number of organizations we can support if you are distant from Cedar Key. We will post them as we become aware of them. If you can help, that is wonderful, but if you cannot, knowing that you support our recovery is critical, so a like, love, hug or a share will go a very long way.

Here is the first we have seen so far and it’s for the resilient Prickly Palm. If Hannah has ever poured you a coffee or made you an açaí bowl, please consider even a small donation.

We know that this is a GoFundMe and that they charge between 14% and 17%. Because Seacoast bank is currently closed, we don’t have a lot of other options at the moment, but will update you as soon as we hear of a Venmo or Zelle direct option with no fees.
