FYI: From The Chronicle
PRESS RELEASE: From Lewis County Acting Fire Marshal Lee Napier (July 1, 2015)
Lewis County 4th of July Safety
Each year in the United States of America, we celebrate the 4th of July with community parades, picnics, and fireworks — the sort of celebrations that make cherished memories. The office of the Lewis County Fire Marshal has heard the requests from some of the citizens of Lewis County to ban fireworks this year. However, even immediate action by the Board of County Commissioners would not allow the ban to go into effect in time for this 4th of July. The current state law leaves this office with only the option to ask for assistance from the citizens to prevent fireworks-related tragedy.
Considering, the current extreme weather conditions, the office of the Lewis County Fire Marshal asks everyone in unincorporated Lewis County to refrain from personal discharge of all fireworks and to find alternative ways to celebrate this 4th of July.
In true Lewis County spirit, several cities and civic groups are hosting weekend festivities that include fireworks displays.
According to The Chronicle’s Life Section, June 30, 2015, fireworks display can be viewed at:
• The Southwest Washington Fairgrounds following the Destruction Derby,
• The Pe Ell School starting around 10:15 pm,
• Vader fireworks show beginning around 10 pm, and
• The Randle Firefighters Association at the White Pass High School also starting around 10 pm.
The office of the Lewis County Fire Marshal wants everyone in Lewis County to have fun and be safe this 4th of July.
