It is with deep regret and sadness that we share the loss of one of our beloved Tourism Associates and dear friend, Kelly Spinner. She is already missed so dearly. We have shared a few words below regarding her passing and the impact she has made on so many.
With heavy hearts, the staff and board of the Franklin County Visitors Bureau (FCVB) announce the unexpected passing of Kelly Spinner, FCVB Tourism & Sales Associate. Kelly passed on December 31, 2024, of natural causes.

The Visitors Bureau and its staff will miss Kelly deeply and are grateful for her many contributions during nearly ten years working with FCVB. Kelly was a tireless promoter of tourism, a believer in community, and a strong supporter of local business. Prior to working with tourism and the Franklin County Visitors Bureau, Kelly was a radio personality, most recently on WEEO FM/103.7. Blessed with an amazing radio voice, a genuine love of people, and an easy-to-talk-with demeanor—Kelly touched the hearts and minds of so many in her years working with FCVB and on radio from the tristate to Harrisburg PA. Kelly was a valued part of the visitors bureau team. Words do not express how much she will be missed.

The Visitors Bureau sends its deepest condolences to her family and friends. Anyone knowing Kelly can pay it forward by sharing a laugh with someone or by giving their time and talents to a local non-profit organization. Kelly was a tireless supporter of Franklin County non-profits for people and pets.

July is Kelly’s birth month, so a Celebration of Life is planned for July 26, 2025, at the Franklin County 11/30 Visitors Center. Hans Krose, Kelly’s husband of more than thirty years said, “She loved people, and they loved her back.”

Godspeed Kelly Spinner!

Clear Toy Candy

Often not found outside of Pennsylvania, clear toy candy is a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition. Hand-crafted in small batches, the history of clear toy candy can be traced as far back as 1750 when German immigrants arrived in Philadelphia. As a center for sugar trade, it was the site of an active candy-making industry. The candy then traveled west along with much of the PA Dutch population. Because it retailed at about 18 cents apiece in the era of penny candy, it was considered an elitist confection.

A candy and toy in one, the candies were made in three different colors - clear (the natural color of the syrup), red and green and molded into all different shapes - from horses to trains.
