As we prepare for Thanksgiving, did you know the first official English Thanksgiving in the New World actually happened right here in Charles City County? It’s a piece of our uncommon history worth sharing around the table!

In 1619, after a rocky ride across the Atlantic, the Good Ship Margaret landed at Berkeley Hundred with 36 settlers on board. Following orders from the Virginia Company, they celebrated a day of thanksgiving—making it the earliest known English celebration of its kind in America.

This season, let’s toast to where it all began—right here in Charles City, the home of America’s first Thanksgiving!

🎂 What a gorgeous day for a birthday ride! Williamsburg Area Bicyclists kicked off their morning with an 8️⃣0️⃣ mile ride to celebrate all the fall birthdays, including cyclists Nick Vrettos and TA extraordinaire Jack Lindenmuth! 🥳

They headed out of 🌤 Jamestown early this morning with a pit stop at Charles City County for a quick 📸 photo op with Cynthia Boone, Charles City's Economic Development & Tourism Manager, before pedaling on to Four Mile Creek Trailhead. 🚴‍♂️🛤️

We can’t think of a better way to spend the day than riding with friends! 🚲 (Though a little tailwind for the ride back wouldn't hurt!😉). What's your favorite birthday tradition?
