The APUS chapter of Eta Sigma Delta recognizes the scholastic achievements of students in the academic major of Hospitality Management at APU/AMU.
In 1978, a group of students from the University of New Hampshire's Whittemore School of Business and Economics (now The Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics) identified a need to recognize hospitality and tourism students for outstanding academic achievement, meritorious service and demonstrated professionalism. At that time, honor societies existed for other disciplines, but not for t
he field of study serving one of the world's largest industries. As a special project, the students researched and evaluated a variety of options for fulfilling this need. The end result was the establishment of the first chapter of Eta Sigma Delta International Hospitality Management Society. Today, there are over 90 active Eta Sigma Delta chapters throughout the world. The growth is testament to the dedication of both students and professionals in hospitality and tourism to the pursuit of academic, professional and personal excellence. The guidance and support of International CHRIE has made it possible for ESD to grow. The APUS chapter was established in 2016 through the efforts of student Mandy J. and Chapter Advisors, Steven C. and Sheri H.. The inaugural president of ESD for APUS was Mike K.

Has tourism become too much of a good thing? Have you noticed any changes to your favorite tourist attractions or surrounding areas?
Every week seems to bring new confirmation we've entered the era of too much tourism. What is the travel industry doing about too much tourism?

Who here is a hotel sales manager? I found a position at the historic Concord Colonial Inn in Concord, MA. I’m really interested, but will probably have to take a significant pay cut from the current “desk” job I’m doing, in which I’m grateful to be making money and earning a paycheck (supplemented by my military retirement and 90% disability from the VA), but not my dream job.

When dining out, do you select restaurants based off of their online reviews? Do you think customer reviews can really influence the success of a restaurant? These steps might help you if you plan on running a restaurant or hotel of your own!
These days, anyone with a smartphone, internet connection and an opinion is a potential food critic, heaping kindness or criticism on your restaurant for the world to see.

Fellow Members,
As some of you head to the beach or have a BBQ with family and friends I ask that you at least take a memory and honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice to the country they love.
These were not men and women who made the decision to go into combat/conflict. These are the brave men and women who raised their right hand and swore their lives to freedom. While we may not agree with intervention in X or support fighting in Y, our brave Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Coasties are just following orders. If you have an issue with conflict, use your anger to vote these people out of office. Our service men and women and just doing their job.
Some of these men and women have military blood in their veins and some joined to make a better difference for their families. Whatever the reason, they raised their right hand and deserve the ultimate respect. This weekend we officially honor their memories but we do not need a special weekend to do so. There's nothing wrong with honoring them any other time of the year.
For me personally, I am extremely fortunate and grateful to have never lost one of my soldiers. We did lose a helicopter crew during my OEF tour and while I barely knew them, it doesn't stop me from honoring them every year along with the rest of our fallen.
If comfortable, please that this opportunity to share the memories of those you know who are no longer with us. Maybe it will open a dialogue amongst us on what we can do to honor their memories.
Also, please remember organizations like Mission 22 that are fighting to stop su***de amongst service members and first responders who feel extremely broken. There are a lot of great charities and groups out there that you can volunteer your time to. In July, we will do our service project in support of Warrior's Heart but you can always do something any time of year.
Thank you. Whatever your plans are, please take a moment with you and your family to have a moment of silence for those who are no longer with us.

"Can you imagine this happening at a hotel? You’re in your room that you paid for and they open the door and ask you to leave because a visiting sales executive with the chain needs the room? And if you refuse, cops come and drag you out?"
Just a different perspective...what do you guys think?
When the news broke yesterday about the United incident where a customer was brutally dragged off a flight, I was quick to judge — and I got it wrong.

Since the inception of the meal packaging program in December 2005, these meals have been used primarily to support school feeding programs in developing countries. Hunger is the common thread among the world’s most challenging issues. Targeting hunger — specifically by supporting school feeding programs — leverages support to other causes including poverty, disease, education, and the welfare of women and children. For more information on Rise Against Hunger and their mission, visit www.riseagainsthunger.org.
Student Organizations that choose to sponsor the Rise Against Hunger event will be featured on the t-shirt that is given to each participant and will receive Chapter Standards points as a community service project.
If you are interested in sponsoring the service event, please submit the Budget Dispersal Form by Wednesday, March 15, 2017.
Additional ways to participate in Commencement include:
Attend the Alumni Rally
The Alumni Welcome Rally fosters community, celebrates the achievement of graduates, and provides information about University programs available to students and alumni. During the event, alumni, current students, and potential members will also have the opportunity to learn more about student organizations. For more information, including hosting requirements, please review the Alumni Rally Agreement. The deadline to reserve a table is March 15, 2017; we have guaranteed space for 25 organizations.
Submit a Congratulatory Video
Student Organization leaders and members can submit a video congratulating the class of 2017. Student organizations will receive extra credit in the chapter standards program for videos submitted by March 8, 2017; 1 point per video, maximum 5 points per organization. For more information, visit the video submission page.
