🌭 πŸ‘€ For the West Virginia Hot Dog History Connoisseurs out there, I have done a lot of research on this and my findings are as follows:

A long time ago in the area of WV I grew up in (way before my time) there sat a small farm known as Bonham Dairy along Rt 21. Just down from this farm was a place called the Frontier Drive In Theatre.

Stay with me here.

Across from the Frontier Drive In was the 21 Stopette. It was known to be a great little place for movie goers to grab a snack and drink before or after the show.

Back to the rabbit hole.

After a lot and I mean a lot of reading and research, the 21 Stopette seems to be the orgin of the concept of putting slaw on a hot dog! They first advertised their yellow slaw topping in the 1920s. So, for all you WV Hot Dog fans out there, a tiny joint on little 'ol Rt 21 is said to have created the famous West Virginia Hot Dog!

Btw, Skeenies is said to have been the closest you could find to that original taste as they were located just right down the road. (Black Friday Skeenies Sale anyone?)

Anyways, thought someone might find that interesting πŸŒπŸ€“ Not spooky but definitely fun trivia knowledge! Happy hauntings Y'all! πŸ‘»πŸ˜˜

Hope y'all are out livin' your best life tonight! Happy Halloween & happy hauntings! πŸ‘»πŸŽƒπŸ‘»

Sometimes, it's a little πŸ‘» spooky πŸ‘» to look back through our past!

CGTC's gonna seize that opportunity with a little postcard fun! Every now and again, we are going to feature various communities and landmarks throughout WV. Stay tuned to see if your favorite locations pop up!

First up, Criel Mound in South Charleston! Enjoy my friends! πŸ‘»

"This Mound, popularly known as the South Charleston Mound, is 175 feet in diameter and is 35 feet high. Excavations made by the Smithsonian Institution, in 1856-57, revealed several skeletonsπŸ’€, some of very large size, one being seven feet, six inches in height. There were also found spear heads of black flint πŸͺ¨, arrow heads 🏹, a sheet of hammered copper 🟧, and a highly polished pipe of gray steatite, of a form used by the Cherokee Indians.

There are several mounds in the Kanawha Valley, of which this is the largest. The "Mound Builders" had disappeared from the scene, before the Indians occupied this territory. πŸ‘€ There are no written records of their existence, but scores of mounds remain ranging from Ohio to Illinois."

- Description found on the back of three of the four postcards.

πŸ€” wonder where the Mound Builders went and why they left?

Tomorrow we honor a piece of West Virginia's heart, David Scott Worley, owner and host of Haunted Beckley. Whether you knew him or not, if you are a resident of the Mountain State, he had a positive impact on your life. From his research in the Appalachian paranormal to his community outreach, Scott was a saint to so many. Please share as we take August 29, 2024 to honor this great soul and lift his wife, Cindy, up in our thoughts and prayers. We miss you, Scott πŸ’™

How do you begin to describe a life so well lived? David Scott Worley of Haunted Beckley was one of my best friends. He is my partner in crime in the paranormal community and in the wv history community. We had so many big things planned together from a podcast to writing a book. Scott was an amazing human that always looked out for others. He and his wife, Cindy, would volunteer in anyway they could from feeding the homeless to taking in dogs and cats in need. Scott was a brilliant historian that always had answers to my questions. He had a thirst to discover the legends and mysteries in the Mountain State and he shared it with anyone that would listen. I am heartbroken to lose my ghost hunting buddy. The world is a much dimmer place without his shining light. I'm gonna miss you so so much, Scott. Please keep his wife Cindy and his dogs in your thoughts and prayers.

Hi there everyone!
I know you've been waiting on the fall tour schedule to be posted. I promise we will post it asap!

Things have been kinda rough this summer. I've been dealing with a health issue myself and now my very close friend David Scott Worley of Haunted Beckley is in need of some uplifting thoughts and prayers. He is currently in ICU in Huntington and on a ventilator. Please, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers for healing. If anyone would like to contribute to helping them with expenses you can send me a message at 304-610-4439 and I will get you the Go Fund Me they have set up. As always thank you for being the amazing community that you are! πŸ‘»β€οΈ

Happy Halloween and Samhain blessings to all of our haunt season enthusiasts! πŸ‘»πŸŽƒπŸ’€πŸ‘½

A special spooky treat for you today! A little known local tale (unless you've been on the East End Tour with us!)

πŸͺ¦ Charleston's Forgotten City Cemetery πŸͺ¦

Location: Ruffner Memorial Park, a.k.a. Kanawha Riflemans Park

Hidden in plain sight, right on the Kanawha Boulevard, sits a tiny city park. It's nestled between some towering trees, a few homes, and an apartment building. It's setting is really a heartwarming reminder of the charm that can be found within a historic river town. Ruffner Memorial Park. The shady benches across the green lawns call boulevard travelers to come over, have a seat and breathe in the scenery. A beautiful and relaxing existence is found here...until the past reveals itself.

What began as the Ruffner family cemetery would become Charleston's first city cemetery. As Charleston grew abundantly over the years, the need for a larger burial space was acknowledged. The land where Spring Hill Cemetery now lies was acquired to be the new city cemetery. Those with loved ones buried in the old cemetery were offered to have their loved ones dug up and re-buried at Spring Hill... for a fee of course. Those that could afford the cost, had their loved ones removed and replaced in Spring Hill Cemetery. For those that could not afford it, well, their loved ones had the headstones placed flat against their grave and 18 inches of soil was placed over them, a park with a playground was built, and the world went on. Many, many years later, we would rediscover our forgotten past and begin the journey of finding the true roots of Charleston and the Kanawha Valley.

PS. The Ruffners still lying at the park REALLY love the gift of a sprinkle of Kanawha salt (JQ Dickinson salt) as they were the original owners of the salt works!
