Took an “off season” vacation. We traveled to the Caribbean islands that had a lot of history of the enslaved and the sugar cane trade. Barbados is very connected to Charleston’s history. I got to be fast friends with our tour guide. Look at the book he had on his tour bus! I was in history heaven!

The world's oldest living Olympic champion! She is a Holocaust survivor from Hungary won a total of ten gymnastics medals, including five golds, at the
1952 Helsinki Games and the 1956 Melbourne Games. Keleti survived WWII thanks to working as a maid under a false identity.

The Tavern, 120 East Bay. Serving Charleston since 1686. It’s the oldest liquor store in the country. If you go there, ask about the creative way they continued their business during prohibition!

Generally January is considered the slow season. We use this time to clean and shine, reorganize and regroup for the next tourist season.

Marlene Dietrich and those stunning cheekbones.
How'd she get them?

She had molars removed to make her cheeks more defined.

Meet the original Mercedes

Mercédès Adrienne Manuela Ramona Jellinek, called Mercedes (September 16, 1889 - February 23, 1929) was the daughter of Austrian automobile entrepreneur.

She is best known for her father having Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft's line of Mercedes cars named after her, beginning with the Mercedes 35 hp model of 1901.

Happy 300th Birthday to Eliza Lucas Pinckney!
December 28th 1722.

When Eliza was a teenager, her father had her try a new cash crop, indigo. The beautiful blue dye was highly sought after by England. People said it was the finest in the world.

She was so successful, it became the 2nd largest cash crop, next to rice. Not bad for a teenage girl in colonial America!!

Eliza is one of the amazing women I talk about on my tour.
