A huge congratulations to SC African- American Tourism Conference communications director Anisha Renee McDaniel for being featured in the article published on the Post and Courier about Black History and Tourism in SC. Thank you to the City of North Charleston and its leaders for the continuous support of the 2024 SC African American Tourism Conference

Renee McDaniel-Newkirk, communications director for the African American Tourism Council, said many of the things that visitors like about Charleston can be traced back to African American influences.

"People are interested in understanding history through stories," McDaniel-Newkirk said. "We were more than just slaves. We were craftsmen, we were entrepreneurs and a lot of what our ancestors contributed to Charleston makes the city what it is today."

SC African American Tourism Conference and Think Tank October 5, 2019 Beatty Center, College of Charleston Registration Fee: $50 Early Bird Registration We are proud to announce our 7th annual conference focusing on the growth of the African- American niche of the Tourism Industry in South Carolina. Charlestonโ€™s Tourism Industry generates $20 Billion dollars for the State's economy. How can this niche grow this economic impact? The purpose is two fold: 1) Educate Tourism Industry officials about the benefits of supporting and promoting this niche, and 2) Educate residents, businesses, and elected officials from historically disadvantaged communities about the resources available to for businesses & non-profits servicing this industry.
