Airlines kicked off the busy summer travel season by canceling ≈2,800 flights in a five-day stretch around the Memorial Day weekend, marking the start of what's likely to be a tough summer for air travel.
Then, last weekend, another record 6,000+ flights were canceled or delayed.
So to help you navigate flying this summer, we’ve compiled some tips & tricks 👇
✈️ Download your airline carriers app and check the status of your flights often! Additionally, make sure to check into your flight 24hrs before your flight.
✈️Get to the airport EARLY. The check-in lines and security lines are long. We recommend arriving 4hrs in advance for an international flight.
✈️ Know your rights! If your flight is canceled, the U.S. Department of Transportation requires airlines to re-book you on their next available service with space. If that will not work for you, the carrier is required to offer you a refund, even if you bought a nonrefundable ticket.
✈️ Schedule long layovers - The 1hr layover is NOT enough anymore.
✈️ PACK YOUR PATIENCE AND BE KIND! Airlines are short-staffed and overworked. Not just pilots and flight attendants, but also ground crews. Remember to stay calm at all times and to not project your frustrations onto the airline workers.
