The Space
Welcome to our rustic and cozy cottage, originally a sweet log cabin built in the early 1900's. The cottage has a cozy and cabin like feel with the knotty pine throughout, and it is made even more cozy with the size and scale (think very cozy) of the kitchen and bathroom. There is a saun

a inside the cottage, which also houses the shower - this may be a little more rustic than some people are used to, as it is separate from the bathroom (half bath), and will give you a feel for the authentic up-north way of life. There is one bedroom with a comfy queen size bed and plenty of pillows. The giant oversized leather couch and ottoman are butter soft and double as a second bed (also super comfy). The couch could sleep a bunch of kids - it has enough space for a couple of grown adults, and there are blankets and pillows to set it up. Whoever calls dibs on the couch will get the most amazing view of the sunrise to wake up to. Additional air mattresses can be provided upon request, and your are welcome to pitch a tent in the yard or even hang up your hammock. Guest Access
You have access to the entire cottage, the dock and grounds. There is over 50' of frontage on Portage Lake. There are chairs outside for the patio, as well as some life jackets and a bit of outdoor gear. You are welcome to use the kitchen, refrigerator, and the outdoor grill during your stay. We have neighbors on each side, please respect boundaries and as Mr. Rogers would say, be a good neighbor! You can park down the gravel drive, we like to diagonal park if there will be more than one car. If you do have guests stop over for a visit or a sunset by the fire pit, please be courteous with the noise. Do not park on front of the garage at the road, as that belongs to he neighbor. Access the driveway next to the mailbox marked with the address. Please be aware of the outdoor light poles that light the driveway and water/electric hookup for an rv, they are marked and visible - please watch for them when pulling in or out. Also: well behaved dogs are welcome on the property. Please clean up after your dog and use the trash cans behind the outdoor kitchen for all pet waste during your stay. Be aware: There is a leash law in Chassell, so please keep them close to you and on the property with you (avoid allowing them to wander, especially with other cottages in the vicinity). Hopefully they will get to enjoy the water during your stay! Interaction With Guests
We are available for phone calls, texting and messaging anytime. We also have family nearby who are our local hosts and caretakers, we are happy to have them help with immediate needs should you have any during your stay. You will find contact information as well as a guide book with details about the cottage, and a few of our recommendations for things to do and see during your stay. We would like you to enjoy your stay! If we can help with any specific requests or recommendations, please ask. Please note: there is no landline phone, internet, wifi, or television currently available at the property. (There is most definitely electricity and heat, as well as city water and sewer with incredible water pressure - the shower pressure isn't one of those little trickles- it's knock you over amazing!) Enjoy views of nature and the opportunity to unplug while you stay. We do find that Verizon has great coverage here at the cottage, and their unlimited data plan is great ;o)

Please tidy up after yourself and leave the cottage as clean as when you arrived. We do have all blankets, linens and towels both beach and bath on site and are happy to handle the laundry upon the conclusion of your stay. Just pop them in the hamper or leave in the laundry area by the sauna and our laundry fairy will come by after check out to get them ready for our next visitors. The Neighborhood
Chassell is a quaint town with a rich heritage. If you are lucky enough to be in town during Strawberry Featival time, you will have the chance to sample some of the best strawberry shortcake, pies and jams! If you are visiting the Keewenaw for the first time, be sure to order a pasty during your stay. You will find them in the menu of many local restaurants. The Suomi restaurant has Nissua French Toast and Pasties. It is a must that you try some! You can also buy thimbleberry jam at the local IGA. Another food to sample if you haven't had the chance! Getting Around
Most visitors will have their own car or a rental. Though close to Houghton, this is a rural area. While there are taxis, personal vehicles are the best way to get around. If you happen to have your boat with you, launching from the Chassell Beach is the closest public access. You can kayak or canoe from our front dock, and swimming in some of the best water you'll encounter is also a must. You may not get very far- travel wise that way though ;o)
