Cheboygan’s Barry LeDuc wins Mark Martin Ice Fishing School 2025 Most Improved Student of the Year !!!
An Inspiration on the Ice! ❄️🎣
We couldn’t be more excited to share some heartwarming news from this year’s Mark Martin Ice Fishing School in Cheboygan— our very own 82-year-old angler, Barry LeDuc took home the Most Improved Student Award!
Fishing isn’t just about the biggest catch; it’s about passion, patience, and always being willing to learn. And that’s exactly what Barry LeDuc showed all week long. With a big smile, a great attitude, and a determination to try new techniques, he proved that it’s never too late to improve and enjoy the sport we all love.
His dedication and enthusiasm was an inspiration to everyone on the ice. Whether it was learning new jigging methods, fine-tuning electronics, or simply sharing stories and laughter in the shanty, Barry LeDuc reminded us all why we do this—because fishing is about more than fish; it’s about the memories we make along the way.
Congratulations, Barry LeDuc, Your hometown Cheboygan is so proud of you! 🎣💙

🏆 Most Improved Student Award – Mark Martin Ice Fishing School🏆
The Most Improved Student Award at the Mark Martin Ice Fishing School is given to the angler who shows the greatest growth in skill, knowledge, and confidence throughout the week. This award isn’t just about catching the biggest fish—it’s about dedication, perseverance, and applying the lessons learned on the ice.
This year’s recipient, CHEBOYGAN’S OWN BARRY LEDUC came in eager to learn and left as a more skilled and confident ice angler. Barrys progress was truly impressive. Barry came in the first day saying he hadn’t caught a walleye in the lake since he was 19 years old, on day 2 of the School, he had a walleye on the line and caught his first in over 60 years.
Leaving the school, LeDuc had caught way more than fish…he said he left having made 10 new great friends snd already
