What an amazing day!! We spent most of the day in North Shore at Sharks cove! This was some of the best snorkeling I have ever been able to do! The fish were gorgeous! Mother Nature has a fabulous color pallette! After several hours in the ocean, we went across the street and had a terrific lunch. Shortly after we started home but stopped when we saw turtles on the beach… there were more than 15 in the water and on shore! They are magnificent creatures! We visited The Byodo-in Temple in Valley of Temples Memorial park in Hawaii recently. It is a smaller replica of the temple in Uji, Japan (which is 1000 years old and is a world Heritage Site). The one in Hawaii was built in 1963 and is a state landmark. It js beautiful and calming. You can ring the bell ( Bon sho) before entering the temple “to purify the mind of evil spirits and temptation” and once inside you can light incense with your prayer. Recently, we went to Texas808. We have been to both locations in Hawaii Kai and the Moanalua shopping center. Both locations are amazing and the Hawaii Kai location has a stunning view but I want to highlight the Moanalua location with Jonathan Wendin at the helm. We are a food allergy family, and they navigated the majority of our food allergies expertly although I’d really like to highlight their inclusivity of special needs. As most of you know, I have a son on the spectrum. That comes with a whole host of challenges. Jonathan and his team were able to accept and include my son openly and wholeheartedly. They allowed him extra time to order his food and listened to some of his stories. I was impressed by Jonathan and his staff. If you are ever in Honolulu, I highly suggest Texas808. Friday I did something I never thought I would actually be able to do! I hiked/climbed the Lanikai Pillbox Trail also known as Ka’Iwe Ridge Trail. Having two neurological disorders, dysautonomia, and a lot of other things going wrong with my body is HARD, but I can do hard things. We got to the trail about 6:20, the sun had just started rising above the horizon and cool breeze was blowing. The average person typically can do this hike and back in about 1.5 hrs. It took me 3.25hrs! I took my sweet time. There were several points I truly thought I wasnt going ro be able to make it. I rested (a lot!!) let a few tears of frustration out, and then moved on. Yesterday we hiked the Makapu’u Lighthouse Trail. the pictures and videos literally do no justice for the true beauty of the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline. During the hike, you can see the Makapu’u Lighthouse that was built in 1909 and on clear days you can see Moloka’i and Lana’i islands which we could see yesterday. The trail is fully paved, and the elevation gain is about 500 feet. It’s roughly 1.2 miles each way, so if you are like me and have some disabilities, you definitely want to take your time and take plenty of water with you. There is no shade on this hike. While the trail is paved, and the inclines are slight in most places, there are a few areas that are a little steeper. If you are a wheelchair user, I would recommend the Makapu’u lookout versus the trail. I had the pleasure of visiting Northern Virginia Springfield area for work. Lego discovery center was right next to where we were. I was amazed by everything you could do here. The manager, Lacy, was amazing. She showed us around explained the different areas to us. My inner child was very happy when we left. This is a great place for a pitstop.
