We always worry that volunteer shifts will drop once it gets cold- but nope! Year after year our volunteers show up, bundle up, and give our animals the love, enrichment, and socialization they deserve!

We currently have shifts at our centers in Bucktown and Logan Square, pet food pantry opportunities, dog walking, events around the city, transportation, and even some at home opportunities!

Big 'thank you!' to the amazing kids in the Animal Club at Beaubien Elementary School who have been collecting donations for us! Margot, pictured here with Shrimp Cocktail, came to drop off some great donations this week and we're so thankful!

If you'd like to donate an item to us this holiday season, visit onetail.org/wish-list where you can find our Chewy and Amazon lists! Priority needs are: dry dog food, wet dog food, cat litter, critter litter/bedding, rabbit food, dog treats, playpens for critter program, traffic handle leashes, bleach, and powdered laundry detergent.

"It's not rescue if they already have a home."

Our motto for over 10 years, a reflection of our values, and words that inspire our programming everyday.

It's the reason why we founded and still collaborate with other rescues to run Chicagoland Rescue Intervention & Support Program - CRISP - a program that keeps pets in their homes and out of the shelters.

It's also why we have had "Dutch's Fund" and "Stella's Fund" for over a decade. These programs give grants to our adopters who have unexpected bills that they need help paying. Rather than allowing pets to go back into the system due to finances, we pass out grants to help our alumni stay with the families that love them.

Holidays are always a tough time, and we have seen an influx in our request for owner support grants. Your end of year gift can ensure that no pet that is loved ends up in the shelter.

In town for the holidays and want to spend that time cuddling a rescue pet in need? We've got many looking, including handsome Derby here! Derby just needs a spot from 12/20-12/24.

Derby is the ultimate people-pup! Wherever you are, that’s exactly where he wants to be—your personal shadow with four paws and a wagging tail. He’ll plop down in whatever room you’re in, ready to supervise your work or join you for a binge-watching marathon on the couch. Cuddles are his love language, and his ideal evening is snuggling up right next to you.

He’s got just the right balance of playful energy and chill vibes—whether you’re tossing a toy or enjoying some R&R, he’s your guy. His favorite things? Pets, belly rubs, and face scratches (he might turn into a puddle of joy when you get the right spot). He's also fully housebroken and does well being left solo (either crated or free roam!) Derby would do best in an adult-only home as the solo pet.

Whether it's long walks, brain games, or a fun fetch session, Bodie is ready to shine with a family who loves to keep him busy.

At first, Bodie can be a little shy around new people—it just takes him a little time, patience, and (most importantly) treats to warm up. Once he gets to know you, he’ll shower you with all the love and cuddles. He’s looking for an adopter who understands that decompression takes time, but the bond that comes after is totally worth it.

He's friendly with both the cats and resident dog in his foster home, soooo wiggly and sweet to every human he meets, housebroken, doing well with his crate, and is overall just a great, happy dog.

Juergen is 1 years old, 70 lbs, vaccinated, microchipped, and his adoption fee is sponsored! Juergen came to us with a cleft palate that needed repair and he is healing up wonderfully.

Voyageur is the *goofiest* *happiest* *best sweater wearing* dog we've met in a while!

She's about 6 months old, 40 lbs, spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped and healthy!

Voyageur loves playing with other dogs, is getting along with the cat in her foster home, is doing great with crate training, and loves every single human she meets. When we say she's goofy we mean it!

Meet Snuggie! This sweet girl is available for adoption at our Adoption Center. We originally met Snuggie at Chicago Animal Care and Control where she came in as a stray dog. She quickly won us over with her “hugs” 💙

Snuggie loves her people and is happiest when she’s cuddling up next to you on the couch! She is excited to go on a walk and explore the city or play with enrichment toys inside. She is a fast learner who can already sit and give paw, and would like to learn more tricks!

Stop in to visit her and our other amazing pups! We’re open 11am-6pm today and tomorrow at 2144 N Wood St.
