Sprout Update! 🌱💙 Thanks to our friends at Embark Vet we will soon learn her breed results! She’s also been loose leashing walking like a pro and has definitely found her voice 🤣 When she’s not trotting around town, she enjoys watching her foster’s guinea pigs (it’s like her television!) and resting on her favorite sofa. She has come such a long way from when she was rescued on January 2nd…we sometimes can’t even believe it’s the same dog.

Thanks again, so much, to everyone that became a Member after we shared her story. Thanks to you, more dogs just like Sprout will get a second chance at life!

We want to thank everyone for the incredibly warm reception and support to our words the other day about animal rescue being political.

"Bread for all, roses, and pets too" is a reminder that all people deserve the basic necessities to survive, but also deserve to enjoy the fruits and flowers of life that give us so much joy.

Things to know:
- We supply food, toys, walking equipment, etc! You shouldn’t have to spend a dime
- You can foster from the burbs! You’ll just need to be able to bring your foster in for a vet appointment or two
- Have kids? Cats? Live in a busy area? Have an elevator? We can help match you with a pet that meets your needs and will be happy in your environment.
- Fosters get first dibs on adopting their foster pet, so it’s a great way to “foster to adopt” if that’s what you’re looking to do!

We’re so excited to say that sweet sugar-faced Schumacher has been adopted!! 🎉 We are so happy that this sweet gent finally found his forever home. We’re so grateful to his longterm foster, Tara, for taking the very best care of him for nearly two years.

Bread For All, Roses, and Pets, Too.

People say that animal rescue isn’t political. That we should stay in our lane. That we’re divisive. That they’ll go somewhere else.

People say animal rescue isn’t political, yet our community members asked for help in case ICE visits their families.

People say it’s not political, yet we rescued a dog from someone who went to jail for a petty ma*****na offense.

People say it’s not political, but there was a budget freeze at Chicago Animal Care & Control that cut their vaccine clinics and prevents them from hiring necessary positions. They euthanized 3,700 animals last year.

People say it’s not political, but the dog I met today was there because its owner makes minimum wage and couldn’t afford housing anymore. The minimum wage here is a fraction of the living wage, but they say it's not a political issue that people can’t get by.

People say it’s not political, but there are laws that say our dogs aren’t allowed in their cities because of the way they look and there are rescues that won't adopt to "that part of town."

When they say it’s not political, it's because they want us to chase our tail, get too dizzy, and give up trying.

We won’t give up. And we hope you won’t either.

Our Valentine’s t-shirt campaign this year is “Bread for all, roses, and pets too” and 100% of proceeds will benefit our mutual aid programs that help our adopters pay for vet care and training when they are in hard times.

Meet Turkey! We met this goofy guy at Chicago Animal Care and Control in November. He was pretty under the weather for a few weeks, but thankfully his shelter ick has resolved and he’s feeling better than ever! Turkey is a playful cat that is looking for a foster home! He loves people and is eager to help you with your chores 💙

Remember Parker? This guy was found all by himself curled up on a park bench. 🥹 He was brought to Chicago Animal Care and Control where we promptly scooped him up! Parker healed up wonderfully in his loving foster home and then made his way over to our adoption event this past weekend at Urban Pooch Training and Fitness Center! His new dad fell head over heels for him and Parker was our first adoption of the day! 🎉

Meet Balsam. 💙 When we go to Chicago Animal Care and Control to find dogs for our program, we are always looking for the most vulnerable. The sick, the seniors, the pitties, the big dogs, the ones with urgent medical needs. That’s why we exist.

So, when we met sweet Balsam the other week, it only took a couple of minutes until we knew he had to come home with us. This poor guy, like many dogs in our city shelter, was sick with an upper respiratory infection. He desperately needed out and we’re fortunate to say that thanks to an open foster home, he was saved.

There are so many dogs just like Balsam that are hoping for their second chance. Some will make it. Far too many will not. Be their hero and consider opening up your home to a rescue pet in need —> onetail.org/foster

Sweet, skinny, Mamacita came in as a stray to Chicago Animal Care and Control on New Year's Eve.

Yesterday she took her rescue ride out of the shelter for a much warmer, cozier, place with lots of snacks and friends.
