DISCOVER NIMBA COUNTY

Located in northeastern Liberia, a mere 4- to 5-hour drive away from the national capital, Monrovia, Nimba stands out as one of Liberia's most beautiful counties. Adorned with mist-shrouded mountains and verdant forests interlaced with lively butterflies and sprawling savannahs, Nimba is a true gem. It is also Liberia's second-largest county in terms of population and one of Liberia’s most prosperous counties.

The county's allure is in the majestic mountains, with Mount Nimba reigning supreme. Mount Nimba offers a vantage point that reveals the borders of three nations – Liberia, Guinea, and Cote d'Ivoire. The Nimba range is home to the Giant African Swallowtail butterfly, Africa’s largest butterfly. Moreover, Mount Nimba provides an educational journey through Liberia's mining history, as it was once a site for LAMCO, the Liberian-American Swedish Mining Company.

East Nimba Nature Reserve, established in 2003, protects 11,500 hectares of the Mount Nimba Range on Liberia's side. Two paved roads leading up the mountain were built in the ’60s by the Liberian American Mining Company, LAMCO. On your way up, you will pass through a Forestry Development Authority gate, where you will pay a visitor fee. As you make your way up to the summit, the landscape of Mount Nimba changes dramatically from forest to savannah and then to the misty green staircase of the former mine. The main road into the park will bring you to Blue Lake, an old mine hole now transformed into a gorgeous lake. From Blue Lake, hikers can go on a guided trek on the tri-border trail that leads to a breathtaking lookout of the three neighboring countries.

While Sanniquellie boasts the honor of being Nimba County's capital, the largest city is Ganta, which also ranks as Liberia's second-largest urban center. Meanwhile, nestled at the base of Mount Nimba, Yekepa, serves as the closest town for those embarking on adventures awaiting them within the East Nimba Nature Reserve. Sanniquellie and Yekepa serve as convenient locations to stay to access East Nimba Nature Reserve. Ask your guest house or hotel to help you arrange for a guide for day hikes in the reserve.

Presidential Honors"

In a leafy expanse of the Mamba Point District in downtown Monravia, a simple yet significant monument marks the memory of Liberia’s First President. This bronze statue of Joseph Jenkins Roberts towers above a black relief plate, presiding over the surrounds that are also home to the former Ducor Hotel. While the independent statue is a poised figurine of the president holding a scroll, the relief plaque is etched with stories and events from the life of Joseph Roberts. Joseph Jenkins Roberts, though born and raised in Virginia, US, is renowned for his historic presidency following Liberia’s independence in 1847. After serving a seven-year term, he served a four-year term as Liberia’s President again in 1871. Kindly follow Libspot for more historical tourism exposure on mama Liberia.

Hectic, frenetic, smooth and sophisticated (at least in its own, very West African way), Monrovia is home to more than one million Liberians.

The largest city in the country, it is a place of great energy.

Rumbling bush taxis float over the pot-holed roads around the center, while the bustling boulevard of Broad Street, nestled between the meanders of the Mesurado River and the Atlantic Ocean, is a picture of life.

Here, you can expect throbbing beer bars and the fading remains of old 19th-century townhouses; you can tour the fascinating National Museum and trace the history of Liberia’s coups and counter coups, civil wars and political trails at the eerily abandoned Ducor Hotel. Bomi, Liberia!

The Blue Lake!

The Blue Lake, also known as Bomi Lake, is located in the Bomi Hills, which is 1 hr 54 min (45.7 mi) away from the capital Monrovia.

The Blue Lake was once an iron ore-mining site of the Liberia Mining Company, (LMC) a British American iron ore mining company.

The Blue Lake is a natural phenomenon and an attractive environment that people from diverse backgrounds will be interested in tourists and have a wonderful experience.

Liberia is a liberating place you won’t want to be missed on your tourist travel lists, Liberia, is a paradise sitting on the west of the Atlantic coast, with its capital city Monrovia with beautiful sightseeing places to visit. We have the National Museum with its exhibits on national culture and history, Centennial Pavilion, the Ducor Hotel, the famous EJ Roye, and the unforgettable palm-lined beaches like Silver and CeCe and more... Along the coast, beach towns include the port of Buchanan, as well as laid-back Robertsport, known for its strong surf. And further South East …. Come to Maryland with the strip of Land between the Lake and the Ocean leads to Yakeh while the estuary of the Hoffman River goes further east along the coast to the Cavalla River empties into the sea, marking the border between Liberia and the Côte d'Ivoire.
