Tinos is a dream destination that should be on anyone’s bucket list when traveling to the Greek islands! Its proximity to Mykonos makes it an easy addition to any island-hopping itinerary, and its unique charm and beauty set it apart from other Greek islands. The blend of stunning landscapes, delicious cuisine, quaint towns, and artistic heritage makes it a must-visit. Have you been there, or are you planning a trip? Endearing but sophisticated Syros weaves a captivating tapestry of traditional and modern Greece. One of the smallest islands in the Cyclades, Syros remains delightfully rural outside its capital, yet it boasts the highest population in the archipelago as its legal and administrative heart. Serving as the ferry hub for the northern islands, Syros is also home to Ermoupoli, the grandest town in the Cyclades, with a rich and unusual history. As the capital, Syros is less influenced by the tides of tourism, ensuring its beaches remain serene compared to its bustling neighbors. Year-round, the island buzzes with life, offering great eateries and a genuine slice of everyday Greek living.
Syros stands out for its unique blend of traditional charm and cosmopolitan flair. Ermoupoli, the island’s main town, enchants visitors with its neoclassical architecture, winding alleys, and vibrant squares. To truly experience the island’s charm, be sure to also explore the medieval quarter of Ano Syros, perched on a hill above Ermoupoli. Here, you can wander through narrow alleys, visit historic churches, and savor panoramic views that capture the island’s timeless beauty.
✨ My hubby and I are returning to the Greek Islands this summer, but not to the islands that everyone talks about (Mykonos, Santorini). We were so fortunate to have stayed on those magnificent islands 25 years ago…for our honeymoon!!!! Yes, I am old enough to be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. 🤫
To celebrate our 25th, we are heading back to Greece because we are madly in love with the Greek islands, food, culture, and way of life. But also because we visited the newly discovered island of Sifnos last year (just a ferry away from some more well-known islands, such as Paros, Milos, and Naxos) and I long to relive the experience. It kills me to go to the same place twice, but Sifnos is super special and should be high on your radar if you love Greece, phenomenal food, and dramatic landscapes. I told my husband that I think it is the next Santorini, and he can attest that I am (almost) always right. 😂
Last year we stayed at the newly opened Nos Hotel, and man, was it special! The epitome of quiet luxury. Much less busy (and pricey) than equivalent hotels on the formerly mentioned islands, especially where we spent our honeymoon before Greece was on EVERYONE’S radar. Within walking distance is a very charming bay with a few special restaurants that I have a hunch will grow to become the next Ammoudi Bay (below Oia, where we ate and consisted of just a few basic restaurants 25 years ago) after the rest of the world catches on. But PLEASE try to keep it a secret and do visit and tell them I sent you! xo QLT

In this Condé Nast Traveller article, the author states that due to overcrowding and record high temperatures in Europe the past few summers, travel specialists are witnessing an increased interest in lesser-known destinations offering a more laid-back (and cooler) holiday.
One of my favorite challenges when planning travel is to find the next up-and-coming or more off the beaten path destinations. These hidden gems are not only much less crowded, but also far more authentic and reasonably priced and makes for a more relaxing experience. Some of the most memorable lesser known destinations where I have planned travel to include Matera, Italy; Medellin, Colombia; Vieques, Puerto Rico; Comporta, Portugal; San Sebastián, Spain; as well as Folegandros and Sifnos, Greece- just to name a few.
Are you looking for an escape from overcrowded streets and scorching heat waves in popular European hotspots? Let me help you discover the charm of lesser-known destinations! From hidden gems in Eastern Europe to tranquil villages in the Alps, there’s a whole world waiting to be discovered without the crowds. Let’s redefine travel and uncover the beauty of untouched places together! ✈️🌍 #TravelOffTheBeatenPath #EscapeTheCrowds #LesserKnownDestination
