The tour will start off with everyone going around and introducing themselves. Your name, where are you from – do you have a fun fact about your or your hometown? This will help everyone become familiar with each other. It’s so much easier to talk to someone when you know their name. The guide will then introduce themselves, go over some important details and provide a briefing. Our tours run, on

average, just over 2hrs long. Your time is precious and we want to make sure we make the most of it. Rarely do we actually cover more than 2.5 miles (4km). You can find more details on time and distance on our Tour page. The end of the tour can sometimes be the most helpful. The guide will make themselves available to answer questions, make recommendations and otherwise do their best to make sure that the rest of your Chicago experience is as good as it can be.

It looks like a spaceship just crash landed in Millennium Park…

I took this shot on my phone through a gap between two sections of fence. At just the right angle and height, it appeared as if The Bean was sitting in an impact crater surrounding by a rim of impact ejecta.

Clearly, the project to renovate the plaza around Cloud Gate has officially started. According to the City of Chicago, "construction on Grainger Plaza surrounding Cloud Gate (aka “The Bean”) in Millennium Park will continue through the spring of 2024. During this time, public access and views of Cloud Gate will be limited. This necessary maintenance by the City of Chicago will replace pavers and make other repairs and accessibility upgrades to the Plaza".

About Us

Free Chicago Walking Tours are led by experienced, local guides who have a passion for sharing their city. We limit the group sizes to ensure you can hear the guide and have a high-quality tour. Guests join us from all over the world so you never know who you will meet! Our tours run for 2hrs and rarely cover more than 1.5 miles (2.5 km). Each tour is unique, so please make sure to review the detailed routes and times on our website. Guides will make between 6-8 stops per tour telling an entertaining and educational story at each one. The end of the tour can sometimes be the most helpful. The guide will make themselves available to answer questions, make recommendations and otherwise do their best to make sure that the rest of your Chicago experience is as good as it can be.
