Cheering on @mateovalentine8!
3 weeks ago, we worked with Chinese American Service League's Anti-Hate Action Center, and other organizations in Chinatown to use the power of art to bring awareness to the rise in hate crimes.
About 100 people stopped by and participated at this two-hour event. They enjoyed bites of orange chicken, veggie egg rolls and glass noodles from CIRCA Pintig, and drank cups of bubble tea from CASL. We asked them for feedback. Here are some of their responses:
📌What is your zip code or neighborhood?
60640 Uptown
60608 Pilsen
60616 Douglas
60620 Auburn Gresham
60638 Garfield Ridge
60649 South Shore
📌What makes your community safe?
- The police and the people working to prevent something (bad from happening).
- People you are familiar with
- CASL
- Everyone
- The people in it
- Working together
- Standing up for one another in times of need
📌What does activism mean to you?
- People from every race working together to stop racism.
- It means to speak out
- To support something
- Creating events
- Stand up for yourself or people to do what's right
- Voicing your opinion and keeping those in power accountable
Feel free to add your responses to the questions in the comments section below.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the workshop performance of HAIL MARY/MARIA. What a great way to kickoff our Fall Season with RJ Silva’s heart-warming “kilig to the bones” play. The cast and crew did a wonderful job of bringing the play to life and all of us agree that our funny bones were delightfully tickled with memories of our first blushes of love. Bravo! And of course, thanks again to @brambletheatre for being such great hosts.
Hope to see you next weekend at the Filipino Historical Society event at Chicago Filmmakers & the Lucha Libre in Unity Park, where one of our Hail Mary/Maria cast members will battle other luchadores to be the “Champion of Logan Square.”

Last weekend, our Executive Director, Ginger Leopoldo and Board Member, Marni Ilagan Yoder, flew to San Francisco to catch the last weekend run of @LarryTheMusical 🤩 The show was spectacular! Out-Standing Ovation! Bravo!!! 👏🏼👏🏽👏 Such an awesome weekend with our Bay Area kaibigans at kapamilyas, especially when playwright Conrad Panganiban, finally got to see and hold the 2023 Broadway World Best New Play Trophy for his play, "Daryo's All-American Diner." ❤️❤️❤️

Circa Pintig is proud to announce that our local FilAm artist group, @sinag_chicago_art will be having its first-ever GROUP ART SHOW at the Evanston Art Center 👉🏼 the 1st in Chicago AND the Midwest. The 1st of its kind, actually -- a VERY momentous event!!! 🤩 Kudos to Geraldine Martinez Benz for pulling off such a feat!
The show will feature visual art by 48 painters, mixed media artists, digital illustrators, photographers, sculptors, filmmakers, performers and poets. There will be an ART OPENING on April 26 from 5-8 pm, with a short program featuring dance, interactive art, and live music.
The event is FREE, and open to the public. RSVP here: bit.ly/SinagEAC
Evanston Art Center is only a short walk from the Central Street stop on the CTA Purple Line, and there is ample street parking. The gallery is accessible to wheelchair users, with an accessible restroom on the first floor and an elevator.
🍢😋Do you think delicious Filipino flavors should be served in a Filipino art show? Yes, we do! So to help defray the costs of making this event a really special one for our community, we are asking for donations. All contributions, no matter how small, will help pay for food at the reception, the small honoraria to the performing artists, and for planning and marketing future community events like this! THANK YOU! ♥️🩷💚
