Calling all big city and dog lovers to join us this winter in New York City...

Whether you love a Boxer, Labrador, Cavachon, Golden Retriever, Cocker Spaniel, Boston Terrier, Corgi, Labradoodle, Schipperke, Shar-pei, Schnauzer, Dachshund, or any other favorite AKC breed, come out and join us for this Bucket-List event!

The storied dog show that we've all watched on TV is returning in 2025 to Madison Square Gardens for the first time since 2020. That year's show was held weeks before COVID-19 was declared a pandemic and New York (and the rest of the world) shut down. For the last four years, the annual canine contest has been held at a Westchester estate or at the BJK National Tennis Center in Queens, but organizers are finally bringing it back to Manhattan, where it has called home for nearly 148 years.

If you're interested, please let me know. Space is limited.

The ancient port city of Cadiz, part of Spain’s Andalucia region, was founded in 1100 BC. It’s the oldest inhabited city in Spain with rich Moorish architecture, grid-like cobblestone streets, quaint plazas, tapas cafes, artesanal gelaterias, and more than 100 watchtowers.

We’ve embarked on a 14-night transatlantic voyage aboard the Symphony of the Seas, the second largest cruise ship in the world. It’s massive, but Royal Caribbean has done a wonderful job designing the ship with so many cafes/restaurants, entertainment venues, musical stages, reading nooks, and relaxing lounges that it somehow still feels surprisingly non-crowded and remarkably intimate. We’re only one night into the cruise, but so far it’s over delivering. First stop: Valencia

The cosmopolitan capital of Catalonia, Barcelona, is known for its stunning architecture, rich cultural heritage and beautiful beaches. Beyond its famous landmarks, the city has an abundance of bustling boulevards, pedestrian only narrow alleys, and picturesque side streets that are all perfect for aimless meandering and offering a glimpse of its vibrant life. Put on some comfortable shoes and get out there.

There are several Michelin-starred restaurants in Barcelona, but our pick was Caelis. French chef Romain Fornell knocks it out of the park with his creative culinary vision that reinterprets classic French-influenced Mediterranean cuisine. They offer a handful of multi course price-fixe seasonal menus with wine pairing, but the best bang for your buck is their late afternoon luncheon option where you can feast on weekly changing recipes like cured egg yolk tart with caviar, beetroot tartar with mustard sorbet, and glazed veal sweetbreads with ceps mushrooms and pumpkin mille-feuille. Treat yourself to the Chef’s Table, 12 seats surrounding the open kitchen with a first-hand view and participation in the creative process. Fantastic experience for about $70 pp including tax.

Pablo Picasso revolutionized the art world in the 20th century and, while best known for modern cubism, he was incredibly experimental and constantly evolving as an artist. In addition to painting and sketching, he also wrote poetry, threw pottery, sculpted and was a playwright. He amassed over 150,000 pieces of artwork in his 91 years of his life, most of which are displayed at the Picasso Musee in Paris and the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.

Fun fact: His full baptismal name is 25 long - Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno María de los Remedios Cipriano de la Santísima Trinidad Martyr Patricio C***o Ruíz y Picasso.

Last Call! Arctic Cruise? August 28, 2023, from Amsterdam to New York (with stops in Iceland, Greenland, Newfoundland, and Novia Scotia), and several chances to witness the Northern Lights.

We used to think of cruising as a boatload of great-grandmothers and their friends shuffling onto the ship in Fort Lauderdale, getting ready for a big week of card playing and deck walking in their muu-muus, while holing up in small cabins with dial-up-like internet speeds. It just wasn’t a super attractive vacation option for us, as we preferred TBE land adventures. We still do, but things have changed a little and there is now a time and place for cruising, especially as we enter our Golden years.

Cruise lines have recently given themselves quite the facelift, dishing out sparkling new perks that attract a younger clientele. Ships are brighter, rooms are bigger, internet speeds are faster and unique sail offerings are much better. There is also something refreshing about unpacking only once and wining and dining on white table clothes for a fraction of the cost of land packages and expensive restaurant checks. COVID has taught us that it’s okay to spend time with a good book, enjoy long conversations with friends, and slow down and smell the fresh ocean breezes.

Space is super limited. TBE still has discounted rooms blocked @ $2755 pp (inc taxes and port charges), BUT they expire in 10 days - August 14, 2022. Confirmation requires an immediate, non-refundable $450 pp deposit (dbl occ) with final payment due next year, May 30, 2023. If you’re interested, don’t delay! Call us and let’s get you on board. Bring your friends. Open to all.

TBE is starting to come out of hibernation after being holed up in a damp, dark and lonely COVID cave. And, while our California and Oregon coast motorhome adventures helped bring a little light to our darkness, we cannot wait to bust out into this big beautiful world and board an international jet plane. Although we are not orchestrating travel for 2021 (it's still a bit too early for international destinations, as many countries are still off limits to foreign travelers), we have started to schedule some things for next year, 2022.

1. January 11-24, 2022. 14-night Winter Adventure to Finland/Lapland and the Arctic Circle. On the edge of Europe’s last unspoiled wilderness lies Northern Lapland – the remote sanctuaries of indigenous peoples and intrepid explorers. This adventures includes snowmobiling, dog sledding, ice fishing, reindeer sleighing, tasting vodka, sauna relaxing, a night in the Ice Hotel, and a daylong voyage aboard a Russian icebreaker and then plunge into the arctic waters with a different kind of swimsuit (a thermal dry one), and, with any luck, we'll also see the dance of the Northern Lights. (*) Wait list only.

2. May 2022. Three RCCL back to back cruises. Join us for one, two or all three all-inclusive voyages:

a. May 2-13, 2022. 11-night TransAtlantic Voyage from the USA to Europe, embarking from Bayonne/Newark, New Jersey, disembarking in Southampton/London (UK). Ports of Call include: Ponta Delgada (Azores), Cherbourg/Normandy (France) and LeHavre/Paris (France). $1499 pp (dbl occ). Price includes: Ocean-View Stateroom with Balcony (Deck 11); all meals (B-L-D) with unlimited coffee and iced tea; as well as all taxes, port charges and all gratuities.

b. May 15-23, 2022. 7-night Norwegian Fjords Cruise. Full of majestic scenery. Ports of Call include four stops in Norway - Stavenger, Geiranger, Olden and Bergen. $1599 pp (dbl occ). Price includes: Ocean-View Stateroom with Balcony (Deck 8); all meals (B-L-D) with unlimited coffee and iced tea; as well as all taxes, port charges and all gratuities.

c. May 23-29, 2022. 7-night Scandinavian & Russia Cruise. Ports of Call include Copenhagen (Denmark), Stockholm (Sweden); Tallinn (Estonia) and St. Petersburg (Russia). $1349 pp (dbl occ). Price includes: Ocean-View Stateroom with Balcony (Deck 8); all meals (B-L-D) with unlimited coffee and iced tea; as well as all taxes, port charges and all gratuities.

Note: All cruise prices above do NOT include: flights, ground transfers, optional shore excursions, or alcohol. (*) Inside and non-balcony rooms available for much less.

Please let me know if you're interested. Stay healthy and in touch.

Since we cannot quite yet travel internationally, we’re headed out on the US highways to see things we’ve never seen before.

Volume 1. We just returned from a short 3-nighter getaway in our 1999 Rexhall Vision 29’. We stayed solely at Harvest Hosts, no further than 60 miles from our hometown of Chico. We’re headed out again in March (up the Northern California Coast through the Avenue of the Giants to Brookings, Oregon) and in April (down the Central California Coast including Ojai, Santa Barbara County, San Simeon and Pinnacles National Park). Stay tuned.
