SPRING CREEK, Oregon
In Collier Memorial State Park, Klamath County.
I just wanted to take a minute to discuss this beautiful waterway.
I have been paddling Spring Creek for close to 25 years and have probably been kayaking there more than any other individual.
I would like to thank all the eco-minded individuals who take there time to clean up any debris that they may come across. When I first started kayaking here I would find beer cans, bottles, trash along its banks. Now it's mostly devoid of debri. Thank you! And let's Keep Spring Creek Clean!
Mares Eggs.... within the waters of Spring Creek lie a unique species, of what I call an underwater mushroom or fungi. In the last few years the amount of Mares Eggs have exploded covering some upper stretches almost entirely! These are special to the cold waters of our area. There are a few people who can't resist touching or removing the Mares eggs. They should not be touched so, PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB these precious Mares Eggs.
This is spawning habitat for The Redband Trout. These fish migrate up the creek in the winter season to use the gravel beds to lay their eggs. Please avoid getting on the water from November thru March to avoid disturbing the fish during spawning season.
Spring Creek is a recreational paradise with Collier Memorial State Park on the lower end and a USFS campground on the other end. However, it is also a very culturally, historic, sensitive area for The Klamath Tribes and is home to multiple individuals who live along its banks. PLEASE RESPECT their space and everything along spring creek. As you kayak these beautiful waters try to avoid getting out or off your watercraft to keep the natural beauty of the creek as it is. And keep off the private properties and docks.
Paddling this creek should be a quiet experience as you float along and enjoy the sounds of wildlife. Boom boxes or loud music destroy this tranquility and should be kept off. If you want music, put your ear buds in so as to not ruin the experience for others to enjoy. And also if you have your loved dog along please ensure it is not excessively barking.
Finally, if you happen to come across debri please remove it, as well as any other waterway you may travel upon so others may enjoy the beauty for eternity.
Thank You!!!
