What a foal season! It's only early June and the record high number of foals has been hit. We are usually in the 60's this time of year.
Get on down and hike the trails or hop on a pony tour boat. You can even spot them with binoculars if you stay at our home.

Why are there so many foals this year?
Healthy ponies produce more foals and the mortality rate is low.
Why are the Chincoteague ponies so healthy?
The Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company rounds up the ponies 3 times a year for vaccinations and health checks and they pull in injured ponies or foals in need of support to provide medical treatment or nutrition. They also drop hay or bring in tankers of water at times when nature doesn't proved. The CVFC are aided by super pony watchers, like DSC Photography , who alert them to any concerns.
Donations and proceeds of the auction support the ponies and these efforts are working. ✌💖🐎🐴

We are booking the last stays of Summer and filling a July 4th cancellation, so we are offering some special rates to get you here!
Our nightly rate for Peak Summer Season is $400 plus tax with no pet or booking fees, but we are offering discounted stays on remaining Summer availability.

A local group asked, "What would you do if you had 3 days on the island?" and it made me quickly realize that 3 days on Chincoteague is not enough!
I should have started with "Stay at Peace, Love, & Ponies - , but slipped up. Here's what I answered:
"Do 2 pony tours! First Day, go with Captain Dan Pony Tour and last day do 8 or 11 tour on Cowboy Cruises to fully cover coast and hear different stories. Have 1 or 2 nice dinners at Bill's, The Village, or A.J.'s, or sub brunch at A.J.'s or Sunday brunch at Bill's. Make reservations. Have ice cream at Island Creamery first night to know if you need to return nightly. Get pastries at Amarin if you are up early. Casual dinner at Pico with a spicy Margarita, Tacos, empanadas, and always try the specials. Head to Chincotiki for some jams and a beer in the sand at sunset. Try to hit the food trucks. Our favorites are Shark & Manders, Cosa Pizza, better, Blackfin (now Blackfin Island Grill), and Lily's Little Mexico. You have to go to the beach and explore the Chincoteague National Wlidlife Refuge! And make time for the Museum of Chincoteague Island! Plus, visit the Chincoteague Pony Centre.
You are going to need more than 3 days."

Ponies on Little Beach, right across from Peace, Love, and Ponies!
You can see ponies from the house, but we always suggest that guests book a boat tour to get out on the water and breathe their air. It's pure magic. ✌💖🐎

What are you doing for July 4th?
Due to a cancellation, we have that week open now at our pet-friendly home by the water! Fourth of July week is a popular time, second only to Pony Penning week, and it is prime time for some old-fashioned Chincoteague fun! Most of the 2024 foals will be born by then, so it is max foal viewing time before they leave at the auction at the end of July. On July 4th, there is an old-fashioned parade and fireworks over the water by the Carnival grounds. The famous Chincoteague Fireman's Carnival opens on June 28th and is open on the 29th and July 4-6. Come on down!
P.S. The fireworks are on the other side of the Island, so our dogs haven't heard them.

We waited until Mother's Day to announce that our 2019 Buyback had a new c**t on 5/3/24 and he shares a birthday with his big brother Panda!

It's a wrap here on Chincoteague. 3rd Eclipse rocket launched at Wallop's Island, just across the water from us.
We felt like part of an epic science experiment today, even as observers. These 3 sounding rockets were launched in 30-40 minute increments before, during, and after the eclipse to measure atmospheric changes in the ionosphere that occur during an eclipse. Chincoteague has such exciting things happen for a little town with some wild ponies!✌💖🐎🌔🚀

Spring is starting slow with cool weather and no foals yet, so we have dropped our Spring and Fall rates by about $50 a night to keep pace. Spring/Fall-April, October, & November are now $250 per night, and May is $300. Taxes/cleaning extra, but still no booking or pet fees. Detail/amenities in post.
Be here when those foals start popping, as we will have some catching up to do! Foal season is the best season!

There are more than ponies on the Refuge! You may so Sika Deer, which are actually a very small Elk. They live here too and are darling. They sometimes hang out with the ponies.

This is not a native species. Some say there was a small group of Sika on the Ocean City boardwalk that used to go to Assateague to graze. When the big Storm of 1933 cut the Assateague Inlet between OC and Assateague, the Sika were stuck. They thrived but are not considered invasive. They do some good too. Beyond being adorable, they eat Poison Ivy!

Why visit Chincoteague, VA?
Describing this special place eludes me. It is so different from any beach town on Delmarva, or anywhere on the East Coast. First, it's not a beach town and there is no boardwalk. It's an Island where people have lived, loved their families, and worked hard for centuries. We have a beautiful beach, but it's across a little bridge on an uninhabited island. Unlike Ocean City, the nightlife is sparse. Our favorite things are to get ice cream from the Island Creamery, go to Chincotiki for a sunset drink on the sand and hear a band jam, or hit Pico Taqueria or The Pearl on a night they have music outside. All are dog friendly. There are some small amusements on Maddox Blvd and we have a water park now, but you won't find big attractions here. You will find plenty of people up at dawn to watch the sunrise, birds, or ponies. The only traffic jams are because there are ducks or peacocks in the road, there is a rocket launch, it is pony swim week, or it started raining and everyone left the beach at once. I could go on and on talking about the island. We love it so much that we bought this home, despite living only 77 miles north in the beautiful beach town of Lewes, DE. Chincoteague has an old-fashioned charm and elusive magic that you don't find elsewhere and is tough to explain. Maybe it's the ponies. Maybe it's the people, who are so kind and quirky and so full of community pride. Maybe it's knowing the oysters you are eating came in that day from the beds you can see around the Island and that lots of waterman still are working the waters here. Maybe it is the wondrous and pristine beauty of the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge, with our wild Pony herd and an incredible array of migratory birds.
Come visit for yourself and experience Chincoteague.

Ray's is a must stop on the way on to the island, either for a take out crab cake sandwich or fresh seafood to prepare at the house. I would say to stop for a meal, but most of our guests have pups waiting in the car.
