Good morning Slack Tide friends,
Happy New Year! Slack Tide has been busy over the winter getting ready for our guests in 2024.
We’ve renovated the entire living room side of the house. New flooring, paint, furniture and fixtures. We’ve added a walk in “couples” shower to the bathroom and much more. This completes the total renovation of the house that we began last year. Pictures will be posted soon.
As always, we are dog friendly with a fenced yard and beautiful natural surroundings. Make your reservations early, at Seaside Vacations, we’d love to see you back at Slack Tide - Chincoteague Island, VA in 2024.

The Beebe Ranch of Chincoteague, Virginia - the home of the real-life Beebe family, Misty of Chincoteague, and her descendants - is currently in danger of being redeveloped. To support the Museum of Chincoteague Island's ongoing efforts to save the Beebe Ranch, Breyer is offering a special Gold Misty and Stormy test run set via eBay auction, with all proceeds to be donated to the Museum's fundraiser. The 3-day auction will run through this Saturday, April 22nd at 1:00 PM EDT.

WOW!

“The Great September Gust”
On this date September 3, 1821 the most destructive recorded hurricane struck the Eastern shore of Virginia. A description given in Scribner’s Monthly said island inhabitants saw the Atlantic Ocean recede southward showing miles of sandbars then a dull roar followed and suddenly a mass of wind and rain and salt spray leapt upon them. Half of Assateague was a waste of seething foam and tossing pine trunks, then the unbroken mass swept across the south end of Chincoteague carrying away men, women and some ponies. Five persons lost their lives in the title wave and one man named Andrews lost his wife and children, but was himself spared because the water levels left him hanging by his waistband in a tree 20 feet up in the air. Another man, Hickman was said to be swept away from Chincoteague and carried to Swan’s Gut Creek 6 miles away on the mainland. The hurricane continued up the Atlantic Coast wreaking havoc and was later to be named the 1821 Norfolk and Long Island Hurricane but around Chincoteague it was known as The Great September Gust!

This tremendous storm will be seen again in the Before the Lighthouse movie.

Friends and Guests,
It’s time to let the cat out of the bag. During this offseason at Slack Tide, we’ve taken on a major renovation of the “original” Assateague Island side of the house. The Kitchen, Dining room, Queen bedroom and the Full bath are all included. A complete kitchen renovation with new cabinets, countertops, floors and appliances (including a dishwasher!!) is currently being completed.
New floors in the bedroom, bath and dining room and new paint throughout will mean that Slack Tide will be better that ever and ready for your 2022 vacation!
Here are some progress pictures to get you excited. Everything will be complete by 3/1.
