Mules have feelings too
So, um, last week was National Mule Day. Guess who forgot to post a single word about our hardest-working, four-legged legends of the backcountry? Yep, that’d be us. 🫤
And let’s just say… our mules are not amused. Turns out, they have feelings, too, and they are not above stopping for no reason on the trail to get the point across. 🤣
So here is our belated love letter to our beasties:
10 Reasons Why We’re Obsessed with Our Mules (and why they tolerate us despite our forgetfulness):
🐴 They haul literal TONS of gear, food, and snacks every summer so we don’t have to.
🐴 They’ve mastered the art of passive-aggression.
🐴 Their only “PTO” is when they’re napping on the trail—self-care goals, really.🐴 Each one has a bigger personality than half our staff…and we love them for it.
🐴 The ultimate team players. No complaints, just steady steps up miles of steep trails with our chaos-packed on their backs.
🐴 Expert navigators of the wilderness… and our hearts (awww).
🐴 Unfazed by Mother Nature’s drama—storms, bears, or our questionable packing skills. They’re the OGs of calm, cool, and collected.
🐴 They never, ever forget a trail… or a snubbed National Mule Day post. Oops.🐴 Their “I work better in silence” vibe really calls us out sometimes.
🐴 We absolutely couldn’t do it without them. Period.

Our home base is in Choteau, MT.
And we wouldn’t change a thing!! 🤍🤍🤍
The wind can pick up for sure on the east side of the divide but the landscape, the people and the lifestyle is something we’d never change.

All kidding aside, we love our little town and the amazing people that live here. And the wind is not really that bad.

This six-day, five-night backcountry trip is a favorite among guests and staff as it travels along Montana's Rocky Mountain Front. Filled with wildflowers, waterfalls, deep drainages, distinct geology, incredible vistas and diverse scenery, it's a great introduction to this part of Big Sky Country.
