MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHRISTMAS STORE BOOKS AREA HALTING DONATIONS FOR 2024.

The Books Area is overflowing, and as a result, no book donations will be accepted past Wednesday, November 27 at 4 PM. The wonderful community response means we can offer more books to our shoppers this year, but we don't have room to shelve or to store more book donations at this point.

Beth in Books (Beth Waggenspack) offers the following suggestions if you still have books to donate:
(1) If you are part of an organization/group with a book drive and you can't meet the Wednesday, November 27 cut off date, please contact me ASAP at [email protected].
(2) If you still have books to donate now, here are some suggestions: (a) Beginning in January, I will be glad to meet you at the MCCS for you to drop them off. By then, we will begin restocking for next year! Contact me at [email protected] next year when you are ready. (b) If you want to donate books now, there are many local groups who take books, including MCEAP in Christiansburg, two Goodwills (Blacksburg and Christiansburg), and YMCA Thrift Store in Blacksburg (among many local groups). Often, churches have need for children's books. I suggest you call first, because some places may have greater need than others, some may not accept certain types of books, and so on.
The Books Area volunteers are grateful for your record number of donations; you have helped many families to have great books under their Christmas tree.

This halt in book donations DOES NOT INVOLVE any of the other donation areas.

Because of wonderful, caring people like Evelyn West who is 102 years young, the Eligible Adult Department of the Montgomery County Christmas Store will have warm, colorful, hand knitted hats on their shelves. Eligible shoppers will be able to choose their favorite hat as they come to shop in the department. It is always heart warming to see a shopper pick out the hat they want and hear them say, "Someone made this for me?" And we always answer, "Yes, they did."
Evelyn has knitted hats for the Christmas Store for many years and this year she delivered 140 hats to the Store. Thank you, Evelyn, for caring about our neighbors in need.

It is heart warming to see young people work to help the Christmas Store provide needed items to stock the shelves of the Consumable Good Department so they can give these items to our neighbors in need during Store Week Dec. 9-14.
Thank you so much to everyone at Christiansburg High School who donated goods to the Christmas Store.

If you are also volunteering for a shift, consider signing up for an item and drop it off when you arrive for your shift! The store is located at 30 West Main Street in Christiansburg. Thank you in advance for considering helping in this way! Our many volunteers thank you too!

Every year, it is my pleasure to go to Kirstan's house in Blacksburg to pick up all the hats that her mother who lives in Leesburg makes for the Christmas Store. Judy, Kirstan's mother, spends all year knitting these wonderful hats to keep her hands busy as she deals with her ailing husband. I think I counted 96 hats!
As you can see, they are so nice and colorful and I give the smaller ones to Vicky for the 4-8 Boys and Girls Department and the larger ones to Sally for the Eligible Adults Department. It is always such fun to take a senior shopper by the display of hats and ask them to choose one. They are always so touched that someone has hand knit a hat for them.
Thank you so much, Judy, for all the knitting you do for our neighbors in need. Thank you, Kirstan, for always contacting me to pick them up from you. I know you hate for me to take a photo of you but I really love this one! Picking up the hats your mother made for us is one of my favorite things to do for the Christmas Store.

"Wonderful volunteers from Colley Architects came to the Christmas Store and built shelves for the Toy Department. These new shelves will give us more storage for toys. Every year the folks from Colley Architects have come to the Christmas Store and helped ready the Toy Department for our shoppers." Carol from the Toy Department shared the annual volunteering by Colley Architects.
Thank you so much to all of you from Colley Architects for your annual day to volunteer at the Christmas Store to get the Store ready for Store Week on December 9-14. It takes the whole community doing a bit of everything to make the Store a success and help our neighbors in need.

Thank you for hosting Montgomery County Christmas Store Eligibility Team for shopping applications! We love coming into communities and collaborating with you.

Church on Main was pretty excited that Learning in Love hosted a Christmas Store sign-up for our Adam’s Marke families. For almost three hours from late afternoon and into the evening NINE families stopped by and completed the paperwork.

The Montgomery County Christmas Store eligibility team was SO amazing as well as Elena from PFES who translated for many of our families. Thanks to all involved. We will be back from noon-2:00 pm on Saturday. Walk-ins welcomed. Thanks Montgomery County Christmas Store and PFES for caring.
