Inspired by our team is taking summer Fridays to find our flow - that creative space that we need as individuals to show up for our clients, supplier partners, and teammates. It’s the time that you are always telling yourself you will do later and never get around to. We are using this time to find balance in our lives and dig in deeper to our client strategy work, our professional development, and our personal relationships. These are the things the fuel the work we do. We will be off email on Fridays to be intentional with our time and push ourselves to be at our best.

As our part-time bookkeeper and company administrator, your primary responsibly is to ensure our books are in order and that our internal accounting practices are running smoothly. With ever changing team, client, and vendor requests, this role has a high touch point to projects making deadlines and input of accurate information a key to its success. Your days will be spent in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, sales tax, insurance audits, financial reporting, and one-off special projects. Your focus is to ensure the financial function of Monarch is running smoothly and is successfully supporting employees to be at their best.

We envision this role being M, W, TH from 9 am - 5 pm EST.

Key Role Objectives:
• Uphold accounting best practices to ensure accurate and on-time financial reporting
• Work within QuickBooks Online and CommonSku, our company CRM and project management system, to keep our accounting and financial information up-to-date in both systems
• Run payroll using Gusto for full time and contracted employees
• Manage cash flow with accounts payable and accounts receivable
• Perform weekly matching and monthly reconciliations
• Review and evaluate company licenses and certificates to ensure we are in compliance annually
• Monitoring reoccurring company costs
• Support sales tax filings and payments
• Receiving emails on three company accounts and depositing checks

Supporting Gilead’s Employee Resource Group, Gileados, to launch their SoCal chapter was rewarding and insightful. ⁠⁠
⁠⁠
Sitting with the ERG chair, we got to learn more about the experiences of Latino employees working at a large organization. We appreciated the time our client took to explain the deeper purpose behind Gileados and how these groups can make people feel at home. This understanding allowed us to come up with a design that spoke to the culture, the bright energy, the beginning of a new chapter, and SoCal all at the same time. We were honored to gift over 500 t-shirts to supporters and cheerleaders of Gileados across the company and look forward to many more chapter launches!⁠⁠

Poems + Small Businesses + Snacks = Happy Mail Days Are In Your Future!

Intentionality and creativity in your work can increase engagement and motivation on all types of teams. When thinking about how to incentivize our clients to fill out our yearly feedback survey we decided to give them a snack pack but not just any snack pack….

This pack includes snacks from some of our favorite small businesses! We also needed to find a creative way to communicate what each small business stood for and make it a fun experience for the receiver so we added an insert card that featured a poem, written by yours truly, and included a description of each business on the back.

In honor of women’s history month, we wanted to provide perspectives from our employees on what it means to work for a woman-owned business. This post is for any woman business owner who may not understand the impact that their company has on its people and it’s to encourage the employees who feel impacted by working at a woman-owned company to stand up and celebrate their team.
Did you know, up until 1988 women could not get a business loan without their husband’s, or a male relative’s, co-signature? Understanding these barriers and challenges helps us to understand why owning a business as a women is a significant accomplishment.
