Cruise Lingo 101:
🚢🌊 Words You Should Know 🌊🚢
Heading on a cruise soon? Here are some common terms you'll hear onboard that you should be familiar with before getting on 😎
Meanings ⬇️:
1. Aft:
The back of the ship.
2. Bow:
The front of the ship.
3. Port:
The left side of the ship when facing forward (bow).
4. Starboard:
The right side of the ship when facing forward (bow).
5. Main Dining Room:
The primary, large dining area where meals are served.
6. Muster Drill:
A mandatory safety drill where passengers learn what to do in an emergency.
7. Cabin/Stateroom:
Your room on the ship.
8. Deck:
The different levels or floors of the ship.
9. Tender:
A smaller boat used to transport passengers to shore when the ship is anchored away from the dock.
10. Shore Excursion:
Organized trips and activities available at the ports of call.
11. Debarkation:
To leave the ship
12. Embark:
To board the ship
13. Gangway:
The ramp or bridge used for boarding and leaving the ship.
14. Lido Deck:
The deck with the pool and often where casual dining options are located 😜 pronounced LEE-DOUGH.
15. Cruise Director:
The person in charge of entertainment and activities on the ship.
16. Sea Day:
A day spent at sea without stopping at a port.

Final payment for services provided by the staff (can be prepaid).
