Eastern Fence Lizards are likely the most commonly seen animal on Nelson Rocks (besides birds) and can often be found sunning on the eastern-facing second half of the Via Ferrata route.

These reptiles blend in almost perfectly to the lichen on the rocks; you'd be lucky to even notice one until it starts moving!

There's just over 2 weeks left in our 2023 season but it's never too early to start planning an adventure for next year! WINTER OFFICE HOURS UPDATE:

Our winter office hours this year are Mon/Wed/Fri 9-4 and Sat/Sun 8-5.

We will be closed for tours early January through late February but lodging is open year-round. We'll be back in the office and on the rocks 7 days a week starting March 1st!

We're always happy to schedule tours outside of our normal winter schedule when possible, so give us a call to schedule your group!

WINTER UPDATE AND 2023 HIRING: As the holidays approach we wanted to give an update to our NROCKS family about the winter and 2023 season!

Our office hours over the off-season are Mon/Wed/Fri 9:00-4:00.

We are fully open for lodging year-round but currently anticipate running only a limited number of Via Ferrata tours over the winter as we conduct annual maintenance on the course. For inquiries about wintertime tours please call us at 877-435-4842. We're currently expecting to resume full 7 days a week operations by March 1st at the latest.

We're also excited to announce that we are HIRING ADVENTURE GUIDES for the 2023 season! A great fit for anyone interested in the idea of spending time in the mountains of West Virginia, you can find more information or apply by visiting our website or giving us a call. We are also looking to hire an Assistant Manager to support our rapidly increasing number of visitors over the past several years.
