No tours today. I took the time to go out find a nice spot on the river and just sit and study for hours. It’s a wonderful opportunity, we live in one of the best places in the world. these are some of the pictures that I saw out on the river. When you look at one of the ships that is going from left to right, I was on the inside of the river at that point. You may see water coming from the ports that the anchors are lowered. You will see water coming out from those ports. It is a very sunny day and the sun is very hot. The captain of the ship will order that water be placed on the deck to cool it off and prevent what is called, hogging. Hogging is when the metal on the deck of the ship expands and it actually will push the stern and the bow of the ship lower in the water. This can become dangerous because of how much of the ship is below water.

This is an all day tour for the Lamplighters International Organization. We went and viewed the entire Captain Visgar tour, and Boldt Castle. We purposely ended in the evening to really see the grandeur of the Thousand Islands. This was a beautiful tour. Lamplighters International is based in Minneapolis Minnesota. They all were impressed with the entire Thousand Island Experience. The next day we all went to the Koffee Kove for lunch and enjoyed it immensely.

Take a close look at the houseboat. Not many if any visitors ever see it. It is the sister ship to George Boldt’s LaDuchesse. It is called Amaryllis.

We were out for 3.5 hours. Saw something most do not see, the original sistership to George Boldt’s houseboat. We also saw “Wonderful Rift”, “Needle’s Eye”, Smuggler’s Cove, and Fiddler’s Elbow. What a treat, we went all over the place. Almost forgot, the International Rift was as exciting as ever. Have the Captain tell you how whirlpool channel gets its name.

Just had a couple of great trips this week end. On Saturday 7-3 we took a group on our Grand Tour, “The Captain Visger Original”. We visited Millionaire’s Row, the Boldt Yacht House and Castle. Then on to lake of the Isles. We were able to see a sight that only you can see if you know it is there and how to navigate behind the Island. It is the House Boat “Ambrosia” the sister ship to George Boldt”s La Duchesse. One of the guests, who grew up in the Islands said, “I never thought I would learn something new on this trip!. Thank you Cap’t Berny”

We went through the International and Wonderful Rifts. Whirlpool Channel, Smuggler’s Cove, Fiddler’s Elbow, and the Needle’s Eye.

Another amazing sight was in the driveway of a cottage on Hill Island. A helicopter.

Everytime you go out in the islands be prepared for a surprise, nothing is ever the same.

Captain Elisha W. Visger, a man who, according to many, not only envisioned, but conducted the very first island tours. In 1874, he convinced Colonel Staples to purchase the Cygnet, While Captain Visger would be its captain. Visger designed a tour that weaved through the islands. He navigated the boat through narrow Passages of the river called rifts. He took his passengers through the most beautiful river scapes. Captain Visger’s tour was followed by all the tour operators in the islands. Most notably the Paul Boat Line and Uncle Sam Line. However the old wooden tour boats became costly to maintain and larger steel hulls were put into service. These were more efficient amd profitable. Unfortunately most interesting areas of the river and the ones that really show the majesty of river touring were lost.

However in the early 1990s Cap’t Berny started “Fantasy River Tours” and resurrected the original Captain Visger tour. Now you can enjoy a personal tour as those visitors in 1878 did.

To cover the Captain Visger tour in its entirety it takes 3 1/2 hours. Other tours touching on the original Captain Visger tour are are available.

Call Cap’t Berny 315 783 6222 and design the best tour for you. The 1000 Islands are a wonderful place to learn, to have fun, for romance.

How about you and your significant other being escorted by your own Captain through the islands. You can be like George Boldt and Louise as he had his captain take them out on a cruise. Or Charles Emery and his wife out in their private yacht.

It is a unique tour.

And by the way, remember if you ask the right question and listen to the answer you will get 20% off the tour price.

The first hour is $175.00
