📢 B-35 Bike Trail Extension and adjoining roadway are open to traffic! 🚴🏽 🚗

There are still a couple outstanding items, such as the bike tool station and some posts the contractor will install but that work can happen while the roadway and trail are open.

We are so honored to win the ”Most Creative Mystery Cache” award from the Iowa Geocachers Organization! 😃

A year ago we didn’t know much about geocaching, but thanks to Terry & Mary Balek hosting the 2022 IGO fall event in our area, we were introduced to the opportunity to promote Clear Lake tourism in a new, creative way. We now have 3 caches around town and thoroughly enjoy reading the logs and hearing how cachers are having fun solving the clues and learning about our community along the way.

A big thank you to the IGO for this recognition, to the Balek’s for being our geocache mentors, and to all of the cachers that make this activity so rewarding!

Also congratulations to the Balek’s for winning several awards themselves! We learned from the best! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Have you experienced the Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, J.P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson memorial site in winter? ❄
The Surf Ballroom is coordinating two narrated Memorial Site Tours during Winter Dance Party: Thurs. Feb 2 at 2pm and Fri. Feb 3 at 2:30pm.
Take a narrated tour to the farm field north of Clear Lake, Iowa where the ill-fated airplane came to rest. Tour departs from the Surf Ballroom lobby, please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour. Visitors are encouraged to dress in warm layers - a 1/4 mile walk is required. Limited space available; advance reservations encouraged (sign up in the Surf Ballroom box office). Admission: $8.00/person
Visitors are invited to take a self-guided tour at any time. The memorial is located on private property; visitors are asked to respect their rights while visiting.
