It is the season. Road Construction

🚧 Road Construction Alert: Attention Clear Lakers! 🚧

Good morning, Clear Lakers!

As you may have noticed, there has been road work on N 8th St. due to a crack found in the main rail by CPKC (Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroad). We've been coordinating with them to ensure smooth progress.

Here's the plan: Local contractors are geared up to kick off construction bright and early at 6 a.m. this coming Monday, April 22nd. Complete Concrete will be taking the lead, handling additional removals and pouring back the cement section of the repair on Monday.

Following a 48-hour curing period, Heartland Asphalt will be on-site to tackle the final asphalt band sections on both the north and south sides of the tracks, meeting CPKC's specifications.

Alternate routes and detours are set up via N 6th St and N 10th St, as highlighted in the map below.

Our aim? To wrap up this phase with a five (5) day road closure, commencing Monday, April 22nd, and wrapping up by Friday, April 26th.

Quick heads-up: We're committed to keeping you in the loop every step of the way. If there are any unexpected delays to the construction process, you'll be the first to know right here. So, make sure to keep an eye out for updates.

The neighborhood is changing.

The former Woodford Lumber & Home building on North 4th Street is coming down to make way for new opportunities in downtown Clear Lake!

The fifth-generation, family-owned lumberyard, which was started in 1869 at its former location, relocated to 1800 7th Ave. N. in 2021. The City of Clear Lake purchased the property that year for a future library expansion project.

In December, the City Council awarded a construction contract to Charlson Excavating of Clear Lake to demolish the 21,500-square-foot building, remove debris, backfill and compact the site. The interim completion date is Feb. 3, and the final completion date is May 24.

Things are progressing.

The former Fiddler’s Lounge/Anchor Inn/Boathouse Bar & Grill/Golden Goose was recently demolished to make way for the new & expanded Surf Ballroom Music Enrichment Center that will be reminiscent of the original Surf Ballroom & Museum and will add event space and tour offerings to compliment the historic ballroom it will stand next to.
