Spring Spoonbill Fishing at Lake of the Ozarks!

Spring is prime time for snagging spoonbill (paddlefish) at Lake of the Ozarks! As the water warms and these prehistoric giants migrate upstream to spawn, anglers from all over head to the lake for a chance to hook into one of these massive fish.

Spoonbill snagging isn’t your typical fishing—it requires heavy gear, strong arms, and a bit of patience. The best spots include deep channels and areas near the dam where fish concentrate. Successful anglers use large treble hooks and heavy weights to drag through the water, hoping to latch onto one of these powerful fish.

If you’re heading out, make sure to check regulations on season dates, size limits, and permits. And don’t forget to bring your camera—you never know when you’ll land a 50+ pounder!
