This week in history...

Sunrise paints a stunning backdrop for space shuttle Discovery as it touched down at the Shuttle Landing Facility to complete the 11-day, 20-hour and 27-minute-long STS-85 mission. This was the 39th landing at Kennedy in the history of the space shuttle program and the 11th touchdown for Discovery at its home center.

At 5:57am ET on July 21, 2011, space shuttle Atlantis landed for the final time at Kennedy's Launch and Landing Facility after 200 orbits around Earth and a journey of 5,284,862 miles on the STS-135 mission and final flight for the Space Shuttle Program.

The Space Coast is a great place to watch a rocket and is an awesome place to watch. Some things to know… come early (2 hours), bring water, food & sunscreen, park in designated spaces only. The gate will close to incoming traffic 30 minutes before launch. NASA may block road to incoming traffic if Seashore is at capacity. Rangers and volunteers are there to make your launch viewing safe and secure. Please be prepared and have patience, crowding and increased traffic before & after launches is expected.
