Trinity County was officially established on February 18, 1850, making it one of the original 27 counties of California upon its admission to the United States. The county's name, "Trinity," reflects the Trinity River, a significant waterway that flows through the region. As one of California's early counties, Trinity has a deep historical footprint, marked by its Gold Rush heritage, natural beauty, and contributions to the state's development. 📜🌲

Plan your stay at Ripple Creek Cabins and go out looking for bald eagles. We often see them at Trinity Lake or just on the river on our property.

In a wildlife stunner over the weekend, Forest Service biologists counted 123 bald eagles at Trinity Lake in the north state, the highest at any lake in California in this year’s annual winter counts.

01/31/2020

What a success this year’s Bald Eagle survey of Trinity Lake was! There were a record number of eagles for Trinity Lake that were counted, that even topped the numbers we saw at Shasta – 123!! 68 adults and 55 juveniles. Those numbers, coupled with some wonderfully mild weather, made for a very memorable two days. Here are the best photos from the trip, courtesy wildlife biologists Kaela Gamio and Lauren Clark.

January through July is the bald eagle nesting season. Early in the nesting season, you may see the eagles repairing their nest and participating in courtship behavior. Once the eggs are laid, they will be incubated for approximately 35 days before the chicks hatch. While both adults share in the incubation duties, the female generally does most of the incubation. Once hatched, the chicks remain in the nest for approximately 12 weeks before they begin to fly on their own.

Eagle observers are reminded that state and federal laws protect bald eagles and their nest sites. Disturbance around the nest could cause the birds to abandon the nest or discourage them from using the nest in the future. Please enjoy them from a distance and respect closure areas. One of the best areas for eagle viewing is on the Pit Arm of Shasta Lake. Anyone observing eagles building a new nest should contact the Shasta-Trinity National Recreation Area/Shasta Lake Ranger District office.
